Nigeria will have the world’s poorest people by 2050 – Report

The annual report of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, titled the Goalkeepers report has revealed that Nigeria will have the world’s poorest people by 2050.

According to the website of the foundation, The GoalKeepers Report takes a detailed look at the progress being made around the globe. This year, both the event and the report will focus on youth population growth that will affect future world progress.

The report revealed that while “more than a billion people have lifted themselves out of extreme poverty worldwide, extreme poverty is becoming heavily concentrated in sub-Saharan African countries. By 2050, that’s where 86 per cent of the extremely poor people in the world are projected to live.”

It added: “One of the obstacles the continent faces is rapid population growth. Africa as a whole is projected to nearly double in size by 2050, which means that even if the percentage of poor people on the continent is cut in half, the number of poor people stays the same.

By 2050, for example, more than 40 per cent of the extremely poor people in the world will live in just two countries: the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Nigeria. Even within these countries, poverty is concentrating in certain areas.”

A graph in the report showed that Nigeria’s population is likely to grow to 429 million by the year 2050, with the 152 million of those people projected to live in poverty.

Other nations that will have a high number of poor people by the year 2050 include Madagascar, Somalia, Burundi, Malawi, Zambia, South Sudan, Central African Republic, and Guinea Bissau.

All because of the abo.kis and their waste cheerleaders!! Nigeria of just 150 million people already has more poor people than India of over 1 billion people yet the id!,ots ruling the country and those being ruled all pretend like all is well. If not for Igbos that are challenging the status quo despite being relatively better off, I wonder how things would have been. Nigeria is a disgrace to sane people and I pray the country breaks up ASAP!!

Chai, just negodu what is being projected for this useless country... "By 2050 almost half the world's population living in extreme poverty will be in Nigeria and Congo..."
Again, the report stated..... "Even within this poverty stricken countries, poverty seems to be concentrated in certain areas (NE and NW)..." Emphasis is mine.
Nigeria is a fast sinking ship and as it stands now, anyone who stays with the north will go down with them!!
Even the same North whom the whole world is pitying and ringing the alarm bells for does not care rather they keep breeding like rabbits! Refuses to go to school or even become productive instead they chose to be lazy!! Now to make an already bad situation worse, they've taken the path of religious extremism and now harbours two of the world's most deadly terrorist groups!!! We must get Biafra and build a wall against these guys otherwise we are in trouble shocked shocked

Such grim scenario is possible with the likes of buhari and their almajiri mentality in charge of government.

The current fraudulent 'CHANGE' must be 'CHANGED' in 2019.

Today, this party of saints called the APC is a party of pains, hunger, anger and evil and where are we today? It is a party which has no historical foundation, no philosophy, ideology"

“Buhari who staged a coup in 1983, removed the political class and clamped them into prisons is the same Buhari doing the same thing, today, dehumanizing humanity"

“Buhari and the APC have no vision, no human compassion and all they like doing is to inflict pains on Nigerians. They want to destroy people’s living standard to a level that they will all become perpetually poor
"

- Sule Lamido

All hands must be on deck to save Nigeria from the precipice of destruction by voting APC out.

One would think that Nigeria as an oil producing nation would developed in a vast pace of time and lift the continent to glory.
No! we are so quick to destroy this nation to benefit our selfish desires and the consequences will be damn to everyone. The elites have destroyed this country and a day of reckoning is fast approaching..

On the contrary, are we so daft not to realize that we have only one place to call our own and that justice, equity, rule of law and tranquility on all tribes and regions in this nation will see to massive development? This nation disgust me and I'm unapologetic about my feelings..

This is a very flawed report that clearly does not take into cognisance economic development and GDP growth in Nigeria or Africa in the years leading up to 2050. Nigeria for instance is set to become a trillion dollar economy in the next five years or so, with natural gas replacing crude oil as its major source of income. Nigeria has the fourth or fifth largest natural gas reserves on earth. When it is finally harnessed, it would TRIPLE our annual income.

Not to mention the various economic diversification efforts ongoing across the country, including the rebirth of Agriculture, which would have matured greatly in thirty years' time, or the increased access to finance and welfare benefits by the population, or the expansion in infrastructural development that will surely lead to economic expansion and poverty reduction.

The national rail network that is being built and that will connect all 36 states for instance. That network will create a massive amount of economic development and expansion. A more expanded power infrastructure, occasioned by inter alia, the giant 4000 megawatt Mambilla power plant and other new plants coming on stream.. I mean, this Bill Gates' research just assumes that everything will stand still in Nigeria and Africa till 2050. We should totally reject it. Africa is the fastest growing region in the world economically, after China. Massive infrastructural transformation is ongoing across Africa today, with Chinese partnership. By 2050, Africa will be a major centre of economic activity and prosperity.

Thirty years ago, these same westerners were predicting doom and catastrophe for China and India. Yet look at those regions today. Please we should just IGNORE THEM, and continue with our progress. OUR economies are expanding, while theirs are shrinking, yet they are predicting doom for us. We will be daft to take them too seriously.
