The Nigerian Police Force today paraded three suspects for offences of criminal conspiracy, forcible entry, and impersonation by pasting four forged and counterfeit police stickers with the inscription, 'This Land Belongs To The Inspector General of Police, IGP Idris Abubakar' at different locations around Gbagada, Lagos State.

According to the Police PRO, Jimoh Moshood, the suspects are Williams Iyeke, Julius Babasola and Olufemi Ogundare while the exhibits found with them include; Four (4) Copies of Stickers with the inscription “This Land Belongs to the Inspector General of Police – IGP Idris Abubakar” with Nigeria and Police Flags insignias.

The first two Suspects, Williams Iyeke and Julius Babasola, mentioned above were arrested for conspiring and pasting of four (4) forged and counterfeit Police stickers with inscription “This Land Belongs to the Inspector General of Police – IGP Idris Abubakar” with Nigeria flag, Police Flag and insignias in four (4) different locations (two (2) undeveloped land and two (2) other buildings under construction) at i. Adewale kuku Streets, ii. Adefemi Crescent Street, iii. Akande Crescent and iv. Owolabi Salisu Crescent all located at Millennium Estate, Oke Alo, Gbagada, Lagos State.

2. Olufemi Ogundare the third suspect was arrested for forcible entry, malicious damage on the property after Williams Iyeke, Julius Babasola were arrested and taken into custody. The Police is on the trail of one Soji Adeniyi suspected for producing the forged and counterfeit stickers and conspiring with the above mentioned suspects to paste them on the four(4) locations mentioned earlier.

3. Their ploy is to deceive members of the public and scare away the authentic owners of the said land and buildings by using the name “IGP Idris Abubakar”.

4. The Nigeria Police Force wishes to categorically state that the Inspector General of Police’s name is IGP Ibrahim K. Idris, NPM, mni and not IGP Idris Abubakar and has no land or any uncompleted building in the Millennium Estate, Gbagada, Lagos State.

5. Police invitation letter has been served on Soji Adeniyi to appear on 25th September, 2018 at the Force Headquarters, Abuja failure of which the Police will not hesitate to declare him wanted. All suspects have made cautionary statements to the various roles they played in the commission of the crime and they will be arraigned in court on completion of investigation.
6. Members of the public are implored to be wary of fraudsters and mischievous persons such as these three (3) suspects who would want to use the name of important personalities to commit crime.

PRESS STATEMENT- September 24, 2018

S.O.S ON THE UWARRANTED AND RECURRENT INVASION OF THE MILLENNIUM CITI CENTRE ESTATE (MCCE), GBAGADA, LAGOS BY LAND GRABBERS (OMO ONILES) AIDED BY THE NIGERIA POLICE

Good Morning Residents of Millennium Citi Centre Estate, Gentlemen of the press and well-meaning Nigerians.

We have called for this Press Conference to notify the world at large of our plight in view of the recurrent and continuing invasion and acts of terror and injustice against the Residents of Millennium Citi Centre Estate (MCCE) Gbagada, Lagos, and employees of the private security company that is contracted to provide access control at our entrances and to provide vigilante watch over our community.

Our Chairman, Mr Adesoji Adeniji has been duly elected back-to-back for the past four (4) years for two terms as the chairman of the Millennium Citi Centre Residents’ Association because at this point in our chequered history, our Chairman has been adjudged as first among equals and a man of honour, impeccable Character and high integrity.

In the last 10 years, we have successfully organised ourselves, as peace-loving, responsible and hardworking Nigerians, to use our hard earned resources not only to build private homes for ourselves, but to also build the necessary general infrastructures that you can see doting the landscape, ranging from provisions of Tarred/Interlocked Stone Paved Roads/gggrainages to transformers/poles/cables, dredging of the network of canals criss-crossing the estate, etc. This once desolate vast expanse of swampy land has been magnificently transformed to a place of pride through the collective efforts of Residents, with very minimal involvement of the State/Local Government Authority.

We are duly registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission, and also as a Community Development Association of Lagos State with a population of well above one thousand law abiding citizens of Nigeria.

These unparalleled self-help efforts and commitment from all Residents have recently caught the attention of Lagos State Government and we are one of the CDAs who benefited from the recent governor’s Grass-root Development grants focusing on development at CDA level;

All Residents are equal stakeholders, and we conduct periodic meetings which hold on the last Saturday of every month to deliberate on issues. Decisions are made for implementation based on majority votes of Residents, which is in line with democratic best practices. Execution of ratified decisions is carried out by the elected executive members led by the chairman.

No doubt, as you can see, the Residents of MCCE, the leadership of the Estate and the governing committee members are respectable law abiding members of the Nigerian society and accomplished individuals in their various spheres of human endeavours, who conduct themselves in a decent manner and acceptable manner.

Unfortunately, having made the terrain very attractive through our collective property developments and provision of general public infrastructures, various families leaped out of the woodwork with phantom and bogus claims to stake claim to ownership.

In April 2017, a faction of the family whom majority of the Residents procured land named Antonio Delfino Da Meranda led by one Otunba Festus Jacob misguided the Police in a phantom Petition titled : “Threat to Life”. A detachment of Police Men from Alagbon, Homicide Section arrested the Supervisor of our Private Guards along with two of his men employed by MCCE. They were held in detention at Alagbon for 5 days before their release was secured. For the five days during which the ordeal lasted, our hitherto, serene gated and secured Estate was invaded and taken over by hoodlums who unleashed terror on Residents and New Site Developers. As a fallout of the incidence, we formally applied to the Inspector General of Police to provide MCCE with armed Mobile Policemen, approval was granted and we have since been enjoying the services of two personnel ever since.

Similarly, on September 13, 2018, a faction of another family called Emmanuel Ashamu, having been politely prevented from forceful entering the private Estate security team (headed by the Supervisor, Iyeke William,) connived with officers and men from the IGP monitoring team, based in Abuja and led by ASP Aminu Sokoto invaded the community. Iyeke Williams and some of his men were promptly arrested, brutalised and handcuffed along with an unfortunate Barber that plies his trade within the Estate! They were led by the Policemen in company of Agents of Ashamu Family to some sites under development.

Posters with the insignia of the Nigeria Police and inscription that “This land belongs to IGP” were brandished. The hapless victims were ordered at gun point to pose with pictures of the posters as a backdrop.

The arrested victims were ordered to lead them to our Chairman’s house. Throughout last week, the same Team repeatedly turned up at the Chairman’s Residence at random and odd hours to frantically ransack his house in search for him with the intention to abduct and humiliate him over trumped up charges.

There is an apparent effort to cover up this act of brazen illegality by men and officers of the Nigeria Police from IGP Monitoring Unit, Abuja led by ASP Aminu Sokoto in collaboration with agents of Ashamu Family, Due to the outcry by Residents of MCCE, Print and Electronic news Media over this shameful and illegal act, our innocent, responsible and dedicated Security Supervisor, Iyeke William and the barber, Julius Babasola were paraded like common criminals on NTA News on Friday night, September 21, 2018 with the allegations that they were impersonating the Inspector General of Police. Curiously, those plots of land they were hitherto undeveloped until these brazen actions took place, were instantly taken over the very day the arrests took place by agents of Ashamu Family. A fast track development activity is now taking place at the site this very moment and it is open to everyone to verify.

Due to their frustrations in their bid to find our Chairman at home, they left chilling messages that the abducted security guards shall be kept as bargaining chip until he is arrested and eventually humiliated as dictated by their Ashamu collaborators because he is the main target. An invitation letter was finally left in his residence on Thursday, September 20, 2018. As a law abiding and responsible citizen, he has abruptly cut short his legitimate business trip outside Lagos, and plans to proceed to Abuja on Tuesday September 25, 2018 to honour the invitation.

It is a notorious fact that the ASHAMU, DELFINO DA MERANDA, ODUTOLA, OLOTO, AROWOJOBE & ATUNRASE, all have militias that invade the Estate and engage each other in supremacy battles. We do not want to be in the middle of this tug of war amongst them. They all have various law suits against each other that are yet to be decided by the Law Courts, and despite that, they resort to self-help to claim ownership. Some Residents of MCCE have even had to make payments to at least two of these families to prevent incessant disturbances.

The position of the Millennium Citi Centre Estate Association is for all the various warring families to wait for the final outcome of the various pending law suits.

We therefore call on the Inspector General of Police and other well-meaning Nigerians to intervene urgently, direct the release of the persons being illegally detained since September 13, 2018 and instruct officers and men of the Nigeria Police to stop lending themselves to being used for brazen illegality.

Thank You

Signed:

Jachike Nwankwo

Vice-Chairman, MCC Estate
