First don't resign your job. Just look for good excuse to be out of your current job for about a month to access situation.
Before traveling for the new job, hold enough cash to fly to Nigeria incase the need arises

Before accepting the offer of the new location, try and negotiate your rotation properly. (Instead of getting 30 days leave after a year, negotiate 2 weeks to 1 months after every 3 months so you can see your parents often).

Moreover with calls and video callings feature you can better stay in touch with your parent and the loneliness will not be as your parents is making you to believe.
You can also consider marrying early to calm your parents nerve. Please choose whom to marry wisely.

Don't throw away the oversee offer however, ensure that the offer is genuine.
This is your chance and that of your parents, don't waste it.

The Lord will grant you understanding in Jesus name, amen.

Iam a professional, I work in the medical field. The country is U.K. and the job pays at least 10x my current salary plus benefits.

Good. Since you’re a medical professional and your job is in U.K., from the information you provided I assume that you’ll be earning at least £35,000 before taxes. Depending on your standard of living, taxes, rent and bills etc, you may be able to save up to £5,000 annually. Note that This would be much lower if you had a stay home or student non-working wife and child. If you’re also ambitious you’ll probably see the need to enroll in more study to upgrade your income and level in the organization, and that is your introduction to debt management in form of student loans etc.

This is just a rough estimate and perhaps doesn’t give a near true picture of the reality, but I just want to give you an informed idea of what your decision parameters should be based upon. The fact that the income is much higher does not mean the whole money is all yours to save, not at all. But overall, you’ll have a much better value for your hard work.

As per making money quick and starting your own business, you need to give that time. By the end of the first year, you’ll see how much is in your bank account and you’ll realize that there’s a good reason people went there but didn’t run back quick with trailer load of money after the first year.

All the best as you make the best decision for yourself.

I Need Serious Advice On The Path To Tow

I am currently confused right now on what to do. I need advice.

I got this job that pays 200k+ a month plus a decent accommodation. Iam very good at my job and I have been planning on opening my own. As a matter of fact I have planned to start buying the equipments needed for the company by October. Although if everything goes as planned the company would begin operation by middle of next year. I also have the intention of combining my job and running the company(it's no big deal). However I ran into this sure link of getting a very high paid job abroad. The link is legit and very sure, all I have to do is accept and I will leave ASAP but my problem here is that my parents wokldolet me step out of the country cause I'm their only son. I needed the abroad job as it would boost my income and enable me achieve what I had planned. If I should follow my initial plan the company would run on a small scale. However, with the fund from the away job I could get enough money to go into full business.

Iam thinking of defying them and go ahead with the abroad plan. But one mind is telling me to hold onto my initial plan.

Please what do I do?

Ps I have already been offered the job abroad all I have to do is to accept it. And I don't have much time left.

poor mentality is when one thinks travelling abroad will solve his/her financial problems,do you think people overthere are problem free?..life is full of problems,challenges,obstacles,victories..get a good reason for happiness in life not avenue to make it quick without hard work and patience..the end always leads to disaster, regret and pain..go ahead with your plan here..a word is enough for the ****

Lol, bro you are talking from experience, people keep saying abroad is way better. Little did they know that our taxes is the reason it’s better.

Sometimes I wonder if they even want you to keep any change after taxes and bills, when I see my tax bills I shed tears sometimes.

My guy 200k+ job plus accomodation in Nigeria as a single man is would get you further than a job that pays "OK/Average" in the abroad. With your 200k, divide into four (assess your life and make percentages from that) and use for saving/investing/living costs/whatever you want. Plus here in Nigeria saving and investing comes with very favourable interest/tax rates which you can use to your advantage. But this is my opinion, you ultimately have to be the master of your own kingdom.

PS. You said you have potential business on side that is favourable. Along side 200k + accommodation. Many men wish to be you right now. My guy always remember the grass is not always greener in the abroad.

You have a job of 200k+ and u are also at the verge of establishing your own company here. You want to leave all these because you saw ''a sure link'' to an imaginary job? If it US or UK I am not even sure they can given u visa because of that so called '''sure link''.

My brother there are no sure links to jobs anywhere in the world.

I fit swear say na Rad or Med Rehab.

First off: Guy march.

Next, run the numbers. What is the starting salary, so you can estimate the tax (it's highly unlikely your effective tax rate for a start will exceed 20% but VAT go do you strong thing)? Where is the hospital located, so you can have an idea of the rent (na the major expense)? Then go to any expat or pro forum to estimate the cost of living in that specific location.

What you want to find out is the amount of savings you could be looking to make annually. Your salary might look nice when you punch it in the calculator, but after the expenses, it may not look that amazing. In any case, e sure say ur savings go at least equal your Nigerian salary, while your skillset improves immeasurably.

Also have a long term plan. How long do you intend to work there? Coming back to open a private center is a good idea. But that doesn't mean there aren't opportunities for specialists in Nigeria. Get the right connect back home and you could be paid like an expat. Not a hearsay.

Good luck.

Ok if it's UK that's ok.
However you will pay rent, council tax. Transport costs to your place of work and maybe indemnity insurance.
Note rent will need deposit in pounds.
You might need to take exams too.
Depending on salary you will be a 40% tax payer.
Just putting it out there for you.

Also note saving in the UK is hard.

Do not leave Nigeria without letter of employment, note if you don't satisfy certain checks the offer will be rescinded.

So think carefully

I didn't want to comment but I've got to, so listen..
There is a saying that half bread is better than none and there is this belief that nobody knows tomorrow. For me most things in life aren't sure not to talk of leaving your homeland to a foreignland in search of a job you already have!
I know a young (Igbo) man who sell motorcyle spare parts and engine oil but sold everything (including his shop and properties) after processing his visa to dubai. His business was moving fine but he found a friend who told him of how possible and quick he could relocate to dubai and start making money. Like I said earlier, he sold his properties after acquiring his travelling document and off he went to dubai...
Months later, I heard he has returned and I was shocked. He later explained that his visa (or whatever they call it) expired and he was deported which means he was given a visting visa not permanent or work. He told us how more than 12 people slept in a room and many things I can't recall.. You've got a 200k job and many opportunities, my brother use it well. Only you can decide not me or anybody, so use it well.
My friend, the decision and your destiny is in your hands not ours none your parents. So I urge you to pray to your God (if you're theist) for the right decision and think thoroughly (use your head). Many people are praying to get the opportunities you've got, so the ball is in your court. Take your own decision thats why you are a man

Can't say anything more, God will help you guide yourself.. #ThinkInvestThinkHome

@donsiqua thank you for sharing your story. Before you get a balanced advise, it would require more information. You started well by stating that the job pays 200k. My questions are:

1. What’s your profession? I mean what’s your expertise? Electrical engineer? Software programmer? Etc.
2. What country abroad? Ghana, Dubai, UK, US, Spain? Abroad pass abroad you know
3. What is the title of the job abroad? Dishwasher, Customer support, Elementary Teacher, Level 2 Electrical Engineer? Just examples
4. How much is the job abroad?
5. Are you single?
6. What’s your motivation for planning to travel abroad? Do you want to migrate permanently eventually? I ask because you mentioned you’re the only son.

Finally, you mentioned something about making money to start your own business. This is a good thought, however, note that you’ll hardly make enough money to start your own business and nurture it especially when you have rent and bills to pay and family to support, if that’s your only major motivation for going abroad, think again. Usually people save for many years (at least 10 years or more) before quitting their jobs to start a business from their savings especially if you still lived with your parents or didn’t start your own family immediately.

On a side note, there are benefits of living and working abroad (depending on the abroad is) including getting access to better healthcare, infrastructure, higher education and better standard of living.

Hmm! Valid questions & observations.

Can you still push forward your idea in Nigeria while you live abroad? Can it be pushed forward to 2 to 5 years? You might just continue purchasing and storing your equipment while you work abroad making sure what you gather will not be obsolete. And again, you may look into how possible you can easily sell them later if you do not eventually need them. Another option is that you can safeguard or insure your possibility of still doing this business in Nigeria by buying gold and diamond you can easily sell when you want to set up well. Buying jewelry instead of the equipment is a nice option. You may even have a better idea after 5 years. Investing in jewelry is even easier while you live abroad.

And if you can combine living abroad and doing the business here, it may be the better alternative for you. The irony is that you cannot know if you can combine both unless you try it.

I also have the intention of combining my job and running the company(it's no big deal).
I have addressed this. Can you still combine living there and doing the business here? Or do you see yourself setting up there, and setting up a branch or a sister company in Nigeria? My present state is that I left abroad to settle down here and make impact. I need to tell you the truth: it takes the grace of God to sail through easily in Nigeria without bribing and tipping people, and doing few unethical stuff. But having a sister's company in Nigeria while the one abroad pilots it is a smart move to save yourself from many challenges. It is after you start you start knowing these deep secrets. I am thinking towards that line presently myself.

However I ran into this sure link of getting a very high paid job abroad. The link is legit and very sure, all I have to do is accept and I will leave ASAP ....
Bro, look before you leap. I read someone advised you to wait a bit and set-up first here. While I share with the person that you may need to exercise patience, but only if the opportunity can still wait. If not, you may need to disregard this suggestion. If the job can wait, just try to safe and invest your cash in real gold or diamond, and keep. Or invest in anything which will not lose value easily, and can easily be sold. If things fall apart, return and sell the jewelry, and pick up your ideas here again. Learn from Mayweather. He keeps storing gold which he can sell anytime. And the stuff hardly loses value, but keeps appreciating, or at the worst scenario, stays within the range of purchasing value at the point of reselling it.

Again, instead of resigning, can you take a year leave without or with pay? Or can you easily return to your job after a year?

....but my problem here is that my parents will not let me step out of the country cause I'm their only son. I needed the abroad job as it would boost my income and enable me achieve what I had planned.
If the bolded phrase is the only reason keeping you behind, get your passport ready, move without anyone knowing. When you get there, say hello to mom and dad, and assure them of being the responsible man you are. To start earning N200k+ with good accommodation is not a joke. You are a responsible man. And that you are already thinking of setting up your own firm means you are a risk taker. All you need to learn is risk management. And I believe I have shared some tips with you.

One of the other advices I have read about marrying a Nigerian girl and bla bla bla is not to be taking so serious. Though, you need to consider it too. By the way are you single? Or engaged? If there is a girl in your life, then it is a different story. But the truth is that as long as you are not married, you are still free. You can only know if a white girl is not good for you until you see. And you can know if an akata is not good for you with your eyes. Your parents will die before you by God's grace, and only you will continue your life with your spouse. This decision should be yours only; though, not ruling out consulting them.

If I should follow my initial plan the company would run on a small scale. However, with the fund from the away job I could get enough money to go into full business.
Without saying anything, it seems you know the right decision to make. All you need is to put a very good risk management program in place.

Iam thinking of defying them and go ahead with the abroad plan. But one mind is telling me to hold onto my initial plan.
Did I not mention it that your mind has pointed you to the right decision you need to take? It seems your mind is telling you to hold tight and put a risk management program in place before you jet out. Can you quickly put it in place? I mean can you quickly put a reasonable amount of money together and invest in jewelry before you move out? Or maybe buy a home in a lucrative area you can easily sell if things go south? Or you need to wait and get this risk management program in place? smiley

Please what do I do?
You know what to do. If you need more insights shoot me a mail.

Ps I have already been offered the job abroad all I have to do is to accept it. And I don't have much time left.
Sounds like you are a rich kid from an influencial home who has numerous visas already, or you are with dual citizenships, and you do not need to apply since you and I know getting visa is time consuming in Nigeria. Or perhaps, you had already perfected your plan but just double checking. If you are a rich kid from a powerful home, and you are thinking of losing out of the favor of your parents, hmmmmm! I do not know how to advise you until I get the whole picture crystal clear. And if you have perfected your plan, and just coming here to check yourself, the only advice you need is to put an excellent risk management plan in place..
