please guys,whats the difference between computer science and computer engineering.

The former deals with software and administration including building programs and operating systems.

The latter, deals with hardware.

I will try to explain from their training perspective.

A computer scientist is trained to deal directly with computational problems, they are mostly trained to write programs, design Algorithms to solve computational problems on a higher level than hardware design, also they are given a bit of electrical background training, just enough to help them understand their computational work.

On the other hand computer Engineers are like a hybrid field that joins electrical engineering and computer science to form a single course, they deal with hardware design and can also build algorithms and softwares to solve computational problems, a well trained Computer Engineer can work comfortably in a computer science related field or an electrical engineering related field or even work better in a fussion of both fields (robotics, embeded systems) , most of them are trained to be very comfortable with electronic design jobs.

Its simple. Cs deals with software while ce deals with hardware

Computer science students learn how to build computer systems, and how to solve problems on computers and other electronic technologies using data storage and processing. Computer science students learn a variety of computer languages and computer environments, which helps them master a range of skills – from creating computer graphics, through developing and analyzing numerical and mathematical algorithms and complex networks, operating systems, and building and storing databases, to improving human-computer interactions.

Computer engineering students, on the other hand, are somewhere between computer science and electrical engineering. Therefore, you’ll probably find system operations and computer architecture courses in a computer engineering degree as well. However, computer engineering programs focus on the development, prototyping and design of both software and hardware, as well as the integration of the two. As a result, they put a big emphasis on the physics and manufacturing of physical devices and integrated circuits. Computer engineering students learn to master robotics, pattern recognition, speech processing and so much more.

The posts above me have described the technical differences well, however in Ng universities,
Cs=mostly java, web design,db...generally software .
CE=mostly c, c++, microcontrollers... generally embedded systems.
If studying any if these courses in Nigeria, you will be tasked with learning a lot yourself.

we don’t share courses tho.

we DAT are now reading telecommunications engineering nko....we re doing microcontroller systems too,assembly language programing but we don't do embedded systems
