The 17,000 Eket Ultra modern sports stadium is to be inaugurated before May next year.

Governor Udom Emmanuel dropped the hint during an inspection visit to the site of the facility.

He expressed satisfaction at the pace of work done so far, and applauded the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the workers on their commitment to the execution of the seventeen thousand capacity stadium.

Mr Emmanuel said that the old Infrastructure of the Eket township stadium was left untouched and wondered how people could subject themselves to cheap blackmail that the stadium was merely undergoing renovation.

The Governor thanked the people for their cooperation with the firm handling of the project.

The Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Mr Monday Ebong Uko who conducted the state Governor around the facility explained that the stadium project started in September 15th last year and is nearly completed.

He thanked the Governor for his foresight in the development of sports and provision of landmark infrastructure.

The Commissioner also expressed appreciation to the host community for their cooperation, stressing that the project which is a direct intervention from the state government draws it’s workforce from the community and thanked the Governor for not playing politics with projects

Akwa ibom has 3 regional stadiums:
1).10,00 township stadium = Uyo senatorial district.
2). 10,000 seater ikot ekpene stadium=Ikot ekpene district
3). 17,000 seater eketstadium = eket senatorial districts
All the distict hqtrs will have standard stadium for district/ regional games which will kick off from 2019.
In addition.to.this is the iconic 30, 000 seater Godswill Akpabio stadium in Uyo.
The gov. Has recently hinted that the uyo township stadium will be upgraded to 10,000 seats and covered as soon as the eket stadium is complete.
The gov. Stated that he is also building 10 mini sports centres in 10 secondary schools in the 10 federal districts of the state 2of these mini stadiums in itu and onna federal districs are complete and in use while 8 others arein different stages of completion.
All this the governor says is to give Akwaibom youths great facilities to improve their sports potential, according to him sports is a great avenue to add value to our youths.
The governor added that he will stop at nothing to ensure youth development.

If only all the money stolen since 1960s had been used to construct "unnecessary projects" all over Nigeria, maybe we would have found ways to make them necessary in practice.

Buhari deemed Lagos Metro system unnecessary in 1983, but look today how necessary it has become to de-congest Lagos transport system.
