Video footage of Bill Clinton putting his arm around Monica Lewinsky's waist and posing with her for a photograph while their sexual relationship was ongoing in 1997 has emerged for the first time.

The footage was released on YouTube on Wednesday by the Clinton Library under an FOI request.

It was filmed on February 28, 1997, and was filmed in the Oval Office after Clinton gave his weekly radio address.

While photographs of the event have long been public, it is the first time a video of Clinton and Lewinsky interacting that day has emerged.

Clinton beckoned Lewinsky over from the other side of the room after having his picture taken with other staff members. He can be heard saying sharply: 'Come on Monica'

The pair exchanged a few words but they were not caught by the camera. Lewinsky looked at him familiarly

He had just finished posing with other employees when he stretched out one arm to beckon Lewinsky, then an intern, into the shot.

Firmly, he said: 'Come on Monica,' and she marched over.

She is filmed walking into view then looking up at him familiarly before turning to smile for the camera.

Clinton slipped his arm around her waist, tucking it tightly beneath her armpit.

Once the photograph had been taken, he patted her on the back as she walked away.

At the time, the pair had been having sexual interactions for two years.

Their first was in 1995 and the last, according to the Starr report, an in-depth investigation into the Clintons by Kenneth Starr.

Lewinsky had already been moved from the White House to the Pentagon and had started to tell fellow worker Linda Tripp about their affair.

Clinton, according to the Starr report, told Lewinsky that the affair would have to end in May 1997, three months after the video was filmed.

It would not be exposed for another year.
