Doesn't make sense if that's the case. In my line of work, attending local and international conferences is not negotiable and regardless of your gender, you are expected to get your accommodation. I find this story very strange, though not totally unbelievable... This is Nigeria!

BTW she seems to be a regular caller there just maybe she has a bad record with them.

In the US we as business owners have the right to refuse service to anyone except:

I know a very popular hotel in vi. Most clients have stopped patronizing the hotel because high class prostitutes will come in and buy a drink or two and then spend the rest of the day luring men and harrassing men. Its so bad that sometimes these girls will raise money to book a room and once in, they will be offering themselves to any man they see at the corridor, bar, elevator, pool side etc. Sadly, the men find it embarrassing.
So most hotels try to curtail this by at least ensuring that the women there on a date with a man won't be such.
