Its a norm for the roadside mechanic to convince you we have a harsh weather here and you MUST remove your thermostat to avoid engine damage

I'm here to dispute that falacy.

Countries look like Australia is even harsher than Nigeria during their summer periods and beyond.

China has almost same temp with major parts of Nigeria during summer as well.

The engine was designed to work optimally at a particulate which must be attained before the fuel and oil consumptions can be optimal.

Removing the thermostat allows for increased time before this temp can be achieved.

Unless the thermo is stocked, then in this case you can replace it and not outright throwing off.

You endanger the engine by running without a thermostat.

If the thermo is working properly , it actually saves fuel and increases mileage. Reduces wear on the engine sleeves .

Above all, the thermostat actually helps to reduce overheating by allowing the engine maintain a particular temp while circulating round the water line system.

I hope this helps arm you next time the mechanic insist you remove your thermostat completely.

Rather have it checked for consistency and replace if it fails.

Cheers

above all it helps ur engine to go off when it exceeds a certain temperature. This process save ur top gasket.
