The Uyo central bussiness district adds its first major highrise building with the 21 storey smart building whose construction has reached its 4th floor.

GOV. UDOM Emmanuel expressed delight at the pace of work and commended the handlers of the project for bringing his vision of a 21 century smart building that will be of international standard to the state in order to provide a 5 star business accomodation for multinational companies interested in relocating to the state .

The governor also hinted that this is just the first of many more of such high rises that will be built in the district. The district already boast of good road network with a retinue of banks hqtrs, the Uyo stock exchange building etc.
The governor made it known that he intends to put uyo in the map of cities with standard office and business space that will compete globally.

The Uyo central business district was designed and earmarked in the heart of Uyo by gov. Victor Attah who commisioned the state master plan, Attah an accomplished Nigerian architect of international repute and erstwhile president of the Nigerian instistute of Architects layed the foundation for the state.

Nigerian politicians are expert in white elephant projects. How does this affect the lives of ordinary man in the street of Akwa Ibom still battling with debilitating and acute poverty.

Politician should focus on things that have direct impact on the people like coming up with an ambitious social investment plan and human capacity development programs and not gigantic edifices that have no impact on peoples standard of living.
