With his career careening into the craters, no thanks to his belligerent nature which put him on a conspicuous page in the bad book of Corporate Nigeria and industry stakeholders, Eedris Abdulkareem or Mr. Lecturer as he is also known, has decided to retrace his steps and be a good ‘boy‘ once again.

Back in the days when the music industry was just stirring awake, Eedris commanded a huge fan base across the nation and consistently gave music lovers enough songs to hum and busy themselves with while he went about his wild ways.

A number of misadventures and self-induced mishaps, prominently, his airport face off with American rapper, 50 Cent who was in Nigeria for the 2004 Star Mega Jam, ensured that he did not enjoy the subsequent boom of Nigerian music.

Kennis Music, which availed him a template to soar, dumped him when the belief that he was acquitted enough to run his own show assumed a frightening proportion.

Eedris‘ record label, El-Kream, never quite left the incubator. A public apology to 50 Cent in Lagos in 2008 did not do much to redeem his image. Neither did his last album, The King is Back, herald him to the big time contrary to his anticipation and boasts.

The album panned badly, bruising Eedris‘ jumbo-sized ego and returning him to the doldrums.

But the Kano-born rapper who had been in near-oblivion for the past five years, except for not-too-successful collaborations on one or two younger, up and coming acts‘ tracks, is not done with Nigerian music.

Devoid of his legendary braggadocio, the father of two is making a stealthy comeback. He is telling anybody who has ears that he is now more matured and mild-tempered. And that his kids are no longer infants; they are becoming more aware of their father‘s idiosyncrasies.

The former Remedies‘, 90s hip hop group, front-man says whatever it takes, he has to reap from an industry where he sowed his talent and youthful vigour.

He took the best option available to him by going back to his roots, Kennis Music. On Monday, July 12, his sixth studio album titled Unfinished Business hit the shelves.

Those who have listened to tracks off the album say the rapper has not lost his mojo, it has only waned. That he does not brag too much again but is more philosophical and mature. His fans are praying fervently that Mr. Lecturer gets it right this time.

And if the enthusiasm of his record label boss, Kenny Ogungbe is to be considered, then, the good days are back for not just Eedris but Kennis Music which seems to be buckling under the weight of younger, innovative record labels.
