Staff Execution: Red Cross North-east Operations To Continue by mdokaba1(m): 2:10pm On Oct 22, 2018
The International Committee of the Red Cross has observed a three-day mourning for its two female workers, Saifura Khorsa and Hauwa Liman, who were executed by the Boko Haram insurgents loyal to the Islamic State of West African Province in September and October respectively.

The ICRC told our correspondent on Friday that it had no plans, whatsoever, to suspend its operations in the North-East, noting that its offices were shut for only three days to mourn with the families of its deceased workers.

The ICRC spokesperson, Mr. Vincent Pouget, stated this in an interview with our correspondent.

Pouget said, “To suspect that we may halt our operations is not correct. We had our mourning period on Wednesday in all our offices in the Lake Chad region.

“We started a three-day break of our programmes just to mourn Saifura and Hauwa. There is no connection between this and stopping operations. It is too soon to talk about that. We are now focused on the families of Saifura and Hauwa.

“We have seen such reports that ICRC is pulling out from the North-East; that is not correct. It is too soon to determine the consequences it will have on our operations. But to mention this statement, it is misunderstood in the media.”
