Three suspected robbers have been burnt to death in Uruk Usung in Obot Akara Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.

They were said to be terrorising residents of the area before they were caught and killed by an angry mob.

The deceased believed to be in their late 20s, were arrested after an operation and set ablaze the mob.

The issue of jungle justice seems to be on the rise in Akwa Ibom state following series of killings of criminal suspects by mob.

It was earlier reported that a young man in his early 30s was burnt to death by youths at Urua Ekpa Junction, Uyo, while allegedly trying to escape with a stolen motorcycle.

It was gathered that the unidentified victim was a serial motorcycle thief, terrorising the area.

Yet these same sets of humans would cheer at and prostrate for a thieving politician. There isn't really any difference between an armed robber and a Nigerian politician. They both operate the same way but with different tactics. The only notable difference is that the former steals with help of a gun, while the later steals with the power of the pen, which goes to confirm the saying that "the pen is mightier than the sword." Though I'm not in support of any ill gotten wealth.

But the levity of a politician's financial crime is very much higher because it hurts the economy of our nation for decades and would take longer time to recover. So why do we punish armed robbers and perpetrators of other crimes, but hail our oppressors and looters of our common wealth? Is this illiteracy, ignorance or just plain stupidity? Hypocrisy is truly a Nigerian.

Since the police might not do the needful, they choose to unleash this jungle justice act so as to promote the serenity of the community; nevertheless crime rate is still escalating .

I wish there are other way to curb this barbaric act because it is so appalling sad

What is paradoxical is that the alarming spate of jungle justice has done nothing to mitigate the soaring crime rate.So one is left to wonder how this barbaric act in the name of dispensing quick justice is justifiable.
What is pathetic and equally hypocritical is that most of this people who are quick to condemn their fellow human to death in the name of jungle justice are subservient to the grand thieves(politicians) whose shenanigans is what is responsible for pleothera of problems buffeting this country. If jungle justice is the way to go,Why haven't the grand thieves been subjected to it? Food for thought!
Our corrupt justice system has been denuded of any form of credibility.Simply put it,people have lost faith in our justice system. It totally defeat the essence of justice if a criminal handed over to the police is suddenly seen after a
few days walking freely on the street instead of languishing in the prison for his crimes. That is what actually gave birth to this evil trend called jungle justice.Any attempt by the government to curb this evil trend should be aimed at revamping our justice system in its entirety in a bid to make it more functional and effective in dispensing justice and also trustworthy.
