Menstrual Leave Policy!!! What's Your Take?? by donpy(m): 11:10am On Oct 26, 2018
Several countries have introduced a menstrual leave provision for their employees. As early as 1947, Japan passed a law allowing women with debilitating periods to take days off. Similarly, in South Korea, women were granted menstrual leave from the year 2001 onwards. Companies like Nike have also adopted similar policies.

This bill is currently in the process in India and some companies in India has also started implementing it,

Note that in India, woman receive paid maternity leave of up to 26weeks.

Should this policy be adopted in Nigeria or shouldn't be even regarded as a valid point.

My view is that if it is considered valid at any point in Nigeria then employers will begin to hire less females which will be disastrous for our non-entrepreneurial feminists.
On the other hand if you have worked in a position where you manage ladies in an office you will know that once they are on their period it most times affects their productivity bcus of the discomfort they feel so it will be considered fair to give them 2days off.

But wait ooo, 26weeks (6months 2weeks)of paid maternity leave, dis one hit me well oo, so if a lady like my Neighbour (Iya Biliki) is in this position, in the last 4years she has given birth 3times, she would have had almost 2years on leave, na wa o

What's your take?

It has its pros and cons, some women suffer absolutely painful periods, while suffer some bearable pains while some don't even get cramps at all. A lot of women would use this leave as an excuse to skip work eve though they don't have painful periods. There's no way one can verify the authenticity of claims of debilitating pains during periods, so it's best to just leave things as they are. We have been surviving since and we'd continue to survive. Highest, a woman can call in sick if she's not fit enough to get to work if she's in so much pains.

Well coming from a lady, it's a very intelligent comment, however in India, the deal is not to check if a lady is menstruating or is having cramps, all they are bidding for is that ladies take 1 or 2 days off every month, the reason for this is that the majority says it's just the first day dats is really painful so a day or two will do, so wether you really do have pains or not they don't care and no one will question you bcus of culture issues but I really don't see it being practical here in Naija even though I know some people here on nairaland will say they need it.
On the other hand what's your take on the 26weeks maternity leave. Choiiii
