First of all it should be noted that the criteria for rating the Top 10 Richest Kings In Nigeria 2018 is based on the wealth of the king and not his influence or popularity. There are some kings who are well respected all around the world and have very strong influence but are not as rich as other not-so-popular Kings due to the fact that their source of wealth vary. while some kings get their wealth from royalties paid by their subjects and the government, some have businesses or real estate and others have crude oil or natural resources.

Hence in this post we will not only reveal the list of Top 10 Richest Kings In Nigeria 2018, we will also state their source of wealth.

Africa is a blessed continent with a very rich culture, known for having strong traditional background, with Nigeria its backbone. These traditional kings have had a very huge impact to the development of Nigeria as a country as they were once the ruling body of government of the people. This list focuses mainly on riches and not influence or popularity. So the top 10 Richest Kings in Nigeria are;

10. Olubadan of Ibadan

Ibadan being the biggest and one of the oldest cities in Nigeria, has a very rich heritage and is known for its wealthy royalties. Before the era of modern civilization, the Olubadan of Ibadan was in charge of all the affairs in the city Olubadan of Ibadan is a very prominent title in Ibadan. With Lagos being one of the most industrous and self-sustaining city in Africa, lots of money is being made on a daily basis with tributes being delivered on a daily basis to the Oba/King.

With Warri being among one of the places filled with the largest crude oil deposits in the country, it is only natural that the King of warri should be on this list. Referred to as the Olu of warri, Godwin Toju Emiko who is originally a lawyer by profession is a wonderful ruler also. He rules over the itsekiri Kingdom and has lots of properties and assets generating income from crude oil and homages paid to him by subjects. He comes in at no 7 on this list.

6. Oba of Benin

Probably the most influential king in Nigeria, When it comes to influence the Oba of benin would be among the first 3 on this list unfortunately he doesn’t make enoughh to be in the , the Oba of benin has a very long and rich history. His rule dates back a long long time, his relevance has never waned over the long period of time since they first existed as he is still called upon till date to settle and solve political disputes. The current Oba of benin, Oba Ewuare II since his ascension to the throne has had a lot of royal tributes given to him. He has a very strong hold in the politics of his state, and is no 6 on the list of the richest kings in Nigeria. He gets wealth from homages, royalties or tributes and sales of lands in the state.

5. Emir Of Kano

The Emir of Kano is not only the fifth richest Nigerian king but also the second most influential monarch in the whole of Northern Nigeria. After the death of the former Emir of Kano, Ado Bayero the Mallam, Muhammad Sanusi II was inaugurated as the new Emir of Kano. Before being named the Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi lamido was the governor of the Central Bank Of Nigeria, which means that there has been no shortage of funds for lamido for a very long time. The current Alaafin of Oyo was born as Lamidi Olayiwole III, and has remained on the throne for many, many years making him one of the longest-serving Nigerian monarchs.

The Oyo empire is generally respected for its powerful influence on the historical background of the Yoruba race. Aside from being the most powerful Yoruba ruler, the Alaafin of Oyo also occupies the third position among the most influential kings in Nigeria.

3. Sultan of Sokoto

When it comes to power and influence, the Sultan of Sokoto has both at the tip of his fingers as he maintains a very high status not just as one of the richest Nigerian kings but also as the most powerful Northern monarch. The sultan again is also stamped as the religious leader of all Nigerian Muslims in both the Northern and the Southern regions. This means that all religious issues, internal and external conflict, Important decisions are usually decided by the sultan in accordance with Islamic doctrines.

Although as the name might equally suggest, he is regarded as the Sultan of Sokoto, his influence exceeds beyond the realms of Sokoto. Born as Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar IV, the Sultan of Sokoto, together with the Ooni of Ife, has a very respectable seat as the chair member of the Nigerian Council of Traditional Rulers.

The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi Eniitan was born on the 17th of October 1974. Being a young Oba, he has succesfully modernized his kingdom and contributed immensely to the growth of the Ife Kingdom. Even before ascending the throne, Adeyeye was a very successful businessman being an accountant and a real estate developer. He became the 51st person to be crowned with the title Ooni of Ife when he ascended the throne and is noted as one of the most powerful Yoruba Kings ever.

1. Olugbo of Ugbo

Ugbo is a very prominent town located in the state of Ondo, with the Oba Obateru Akinruntan presiding as the King. Oba Obateru remains the richest king in Nigeria, and Even though Ugbo is a very small town, there is a very rich supply of crude oil deposits. This is the main fact behind the wealth of Olugbo of Ugbo land. He was said to have taken a very good advantage of the oil deposit located in the town to build an oil enterprise. The petrol station started out as a very small venture later growing to become a very large firm with the support of a lot from more than 60 of its branches from all over Nigeria. He also owns and manages Obat Petroleum which is the oil firm in charge of the largest depots in Africa. Obat Petroleum through these depots have up to a large volume of 65 million liters of oil reserves, making Oba Obateru the richest King in Nigeria.

Where is Awujale of Ijebuland? Forget dt thing o. The money dt guy rakes in every year at ojude oba shocked. Ijebu people are rich and they spoil dt man like crazy. Please he's richer than Olubadan and Alaafin.

Warri being an Oil rich city has bearing with the Olu's wealth, His jurisdiction don't cover the entire Warri city, the city is occupied by 3 different ethnic group, it's wrong to assume that the Olu of warri controls Warri.
