Trump Praises Young Black Conservatives: One Of You Will Be President

WASHINGTON — President Trump praised a group of young black conservatives for their courage and said he’s sure some are headed for the White House.

"A lot of people are jealous of you," Trump said Friday at the White House to the Young Black Leadership Summit. “And jealousy's a very bad thing. It’s mean. It's nasty. But people that are jealous, they never make it, you know? They're jealous, they never make it."

Speaking at the East Room, Trump told about 350 young supporters he expects "three or four" in the room will one day become president. "You are going to be standing right here. I have no doubt," Trump said.

The president recalled being panned — even by his "handlers" — for telling African Americans during the campaign to vote for him because "what the hell do you have to lose?" But he said he’s delivered results.

Trump touted the low unemployment and poverty rates for black Americans, his efforts with Jared Kushner on prison reform and his support from Kanye West.

Trump told the summit — organized with the conservative student group Turning Point USA — that some people think his campaign slogan “America First” could be racist.

"Racist?" Trump said. "Why is that racist? Does everyone in this room agree? You're living in America. America First, right?"

The crowd sided with Trump and broke out in chants of "USA-USA!"

The president gave his young supporters a pep talk to follow their vision and to "never, ever give up."

"You’re Americans and the future belongs to you," Trump said. "You're great Americans."
