Though it's a long time I started suspecting that there is something wrong with the brain of an average African man; but the outburst of some people this morning that Buhari should continue in power upon hearing that the Federal Government of Nigeria has reluctantly agreed to the N30,000 minimum wage demand by the Labour unions goes to confirm to me that the assertion may not be far from the truth. These people indeed were so happy and enthusiastic that the best has happened. To say the least, this is callous and absolutely nonsensical for any civil servant to be happy with a minimum wage of N30,000 which when taxed with PAYE, 7.5% contribution pension plus NHF etc. cannot take the recipient home at the end of the day. Are these people's brain so shallow to have forgotten in a hurry all the insincerities on the part of government and back and forth that trailed this agreement. We should not loose cognizance of the fact that the Nigerian constitution calls for the review of the nations minimum wage after a stipulated number of years which is long overdue. When the unions (as a result of so much hardship in the land occasioned by bad rulership by the APC led government) pushed for a review, the Federal Government reluctantly set up a tripartite committee since last year. The committee engaged in an endless rigmarole that was targeted at buying of time for lack of willingness to bring the desired change. Mind you it was the insincerity on the part of this government that led to the brief warning strike last month. People should be reminded that at the end of the day this government of deceit and lies denied ever reaching any agreement that they hard with the labour unions. It was the aftermath of this that would have culminated into the mother of all strikes that labour unions and civil society groups planned to begin today. So tell me, if not for lack of sound mind, is there any other reason why someone who is truly in control of himself and wants to be truthful to himself should be demanding that this administration whose only stuck in trade is destructions in all shades, causing pains, wasting precious life's and properties etc. should be called to continue. Maybe to continue to perpetuate evil and pain which is their only life wire?
