1) Mugabe and Zimbabwe in general got sanctioned. And we know why. It is not a complete 100% fault.

2) Thankfully, Zimbabwe has attracted real sector investments from the Chinese these days.

3) What about the destruction of the Black Wall Street in the US?

OK, work is over, I have some time. Much as I hate the topic, this is Oga Gerrard so I must engage.

1) Said this many times before. I used to be a Black Africanist firebrand. Then I grew up. Got older. Had more experience and insight into human nature and unlike most people, I've been willing to grapple with the REALITIES of that nature and changed my views accordingly.

Zimbabwe.

Let me tell you what is wrong with MOST or in fact ALL liberation movements in all the colonial countries. Because they mostly were colonized by countries with CAPITALIST sytems, those liberation movements somehow associated that economic ideology with the evils of colonialism, racism, imperialism and so on. They therefore spurned everything that had to do with capitalism and adopted the OPPOSITE, which is socialism and communism. I have a good friend from Vietnam, I'm supposed to see him in the next month or so. He's the one that made me understand how this lays bare one inescapable fact that permeates those movements, to wit - the leaderships of those movements were fighting to replace the White European ruling class so that they, the new indigenous saviors, could now do exactly what the colonialists were doing - and what they did is worse BECAUSE they used socialist themed systems. So the people ended up oppressed and POORER than they were before.

One hopes that your citation of Zimbabwe means you followed the land reforms like I did. Yes, the Whites oppressed, robbed and violated the Native Black Africans. However, when Mugabe took their lands, he DID NOT institute PROPERTY RIGHTS, the lands of Zimbabwe are now in the same sort of legal status as in other Black African nations...government owns everything even AFTER the colonized tribes were supposedly liberated by their fellow Black Africans!!! grin

I stopped following the entire process when I realized that was the outcome. I'll just leave it there.

2) You and the Chinese. First, I hope you can answer - are the Chinese BETTER people than the White Europeans? Anyone after having thought long and hard about humans, can acknowledge that ALL humans are good & bad. The ONLY real differentiator that I have found in my own thinking is PRODUCTIVITY and DEVELOPMENT. Solving problems, making life more comfortable so humans can thrive. That is all.

Now the beauty of CAPITALISM and FREE MARKETS is that even the oppressor can't stop the rising tide from lifting ALL boats. You know Yvonne Chaka Chaka? Someone told me years ago that when she first visited Nigeria, it was during the early 1980's fervent campaigns against Apartheid. Apparently during an interview during that visit, she was asked to comment on how much Black Africans were suffering in South Africa. To everyones surprise, she said that Blacks South Africans are living better than what she has seen in Nigeria. I've been looking for the video or interview for years, no luck yet. .

Don't believe that? I've posted a few videos from Thomas Sowell, a Black American philosopher. He's done all kinds of travelling and writing and researched the places he went to. In one video, he explained how Black South Africans were actually living quite well. One intriguing example was how employers SECRETLY hired Blacks in jobs prohibited by Apartheid Laws. Why? It was cheaper than hiring White workers! There was a whole black market based on this labor operating in plain sight! Just sit and think about it for a bit. This is the beauty of capitalism or maybe economics and markets.

All to say, the Chinese are just angling to do what the West has been doing and they will do much worse. The EVIDENCE is that they're no better. The many Black African thinkers waxing poetic about China are falling for the liberation mantra. I know I've told you this before - Africa doesn't need China or the West or Eskimos or Russians or Malaysians. Black Africa needs CAPITALISM, FREE MARKETS and PROPERTY RIGHTS. Unfortunately, the PEOPLE of Africa would rather fight to be in government so they can get money without working, than to allow OTHER Africans to be free.

3) Black Wall Street in the Tusla Race Riots. A terrible example of murderous, racist wickedness and jealousy perpetrated by White Americans in the USA....in 1921, as in over a CENTURY ago. Here's my challenge to YOU in the present century. The USA Federal Bureau of Investigations keeps track of the race of murderers and their victims. Go and take a look and tell us which race is killing more of the other race TODAY in the USA. Murder is murder, there's little possibility of fudging the stats.

I only found recently that another crime that's hard to juke to stats is CAR THEFT. Why? Because all cars are insured and where money is involved, the insurance companies follow the records. Wanna guess which race is responsible for most car thefts and hijackings in the USA, circa 2024?

As a purely biological matter trans-racial killings can be justified. It's a world of competition, the human is an animal after all. So if there's a particular race group disproportionally killing others, we can say, hey it's biology. You went back to history. Would you mind if I took an excursion into Black African INTRA-RACE oppression, dispossesion, socio-political marginalization and violence TODAY in say, Nigeria? I mean history is history so I won't even bring up how Black Africans sold THEIR BRETHREN to strange alien races. It's heart warming to see an African taking up their cause 400 years later! I could wade into things taking place TODAY, not in 1921.

Zimbabwe again. The two main tribes are the Shona and Ndebele. Do you know their HISTORY and how it contributed to everything happening in Zimbabwe? Basically, before the White Man there was the Zulu. The Crushing. Fascinating stuff, but it's history and the people of Zimbabwe have no reason to be poor in 2024.

History happened. America and Europe have a racist past...so does EVERY other country have a racist, tribalist, religiously oppressive past and even present. The Chinese are doing much worse to the Uighurs TODAY, like what the Arabs did to their Black African slaves, but somehow that doesn't matter. It's funny every time people want to paint the USA as racist, they go to....THE PAST, as if the country hasn't IMPROVED on that matter. Over 400 years of progress and it's still a touchstone for those who are simply JEALOUS of the Anglo-Saxons and their proven ability at development.

Nna, this whole thing just makes me laugh. Chinese saviors. grin grin grin No problem, we shall see.

Good Luck to Nigeria.

After the death late president Hage Geingob... No development.. Oil discovery is same as Nigeria.. Namibians are not benefiting from it... I just returned from Namibia this September... Botswana future is bright
If you want to see the real nambia.. Check out
To be fair though, the oil discovery is a recent finding. Drilling platforms are being installed, but no gushing of oil till 2030. So, as it is, no oil revenue. That said, the previous president was there and other resources such as uranium, diamonds, copper plus agro-commodities (livestock especially) were available as sources of revenue. What did he use them for?

How is Botswana's future brighter when it depends disproportionately on diamonds amidst the rise in lab-created diamonds? Also, Botswana is landlocked, and this limits economic progress especially if surrounding nations are equally poorer.

I had to quote all for posterity purposes. Thanks for your invaluable elucidation. I agree with some of the points, especially in overturning the capitalist system for socialism, black Africa needs property rights and free markets. However, I don't fully agree with the motives of the Chinese - they are just for trading and sharing technical know-how. It is left for Africans to utilise the opportunity. Southeast Asians are doing the same. Africa should be no different. China is a huge market to tap into.

Yeah, Zimbabwe is under sanctions. Nigeria is NOT under sanctions. Both nations are growing their trade with China, so both should have booming economies by now. grin

So the point must be reemphasized. I told you in another discussion about forex that the issue is NOT the value of naira, it was that the political-economy of Nigeria doesn't give the PEOPLE the FREEDOMS needed to take advantage of it. Note the POLITICAL. The Igbo know this same as the Uighurs know it in China. Unfortunately, our people don't like THE TRUTH, they would rather accept LIES and feel goooood. Remember there's nothing like fuel subsidy, fuel subsidy doesn't exist grin

The China song has been sung all over the Continent. Is Zambia better of? Ethiopia has been engaged with them for decades. How far? For THE PEOPLE, ordinary citizens, it will be no better outcomes than engagement with the West. Ask yourself, are THE PEOPLE of China free? So why do you trust their COMMUNIST GOVERNMENT to make African lives better? How come they've been seizing African assets in loan defaults? 🤔

* THIS IS THE KEY TAKE AWAY as Raji Fashola would put it....

A political economy based on classical neo-liberal values. Unfortunately, the PEOPLE of Africa would rather fight to be in government so they can get money without working, than allow OTHER Africans to be free.

All the other stuff is context. I was waiting to read that Chinese people are angels. Like, a Black African scion of a slave selling tribe should be the last to lecture Oyibo on their racist HISTORY grin shocked grin Come on man!!! Developed and productive people are good people. End.

Good Luck to Nigeria
