Nairalanders!!! See Here How To Recognize A Fake News by bizzibodi18: 11:56am On Nov 11, 2018
FAKE NEWS as the name implies refers to hoax/intentionally fabricated information done with the intention of misleading the public for selfish purposes like vitiating a political opponent, organization, or government administration to mention a few. The contemporary Nigerian society being an environment which allows a speedy circulation of false information, and if allowed to continue without advocating for the necessary checks on information dissemination might be heading towards a doomed future. It has become a norm in the present age that falsified information usually finds it way into public domain and eventually gain as much credence to make become perceived as being real.
A common African saying about the fake news narrative is that false information if not properly checked or controlled, would go on to establish itself as a fact, even without facts and figures to back it up. However, intentionally misleading and deceptive fake news differs from obvious satire or parody, which is (usually) intended to amuse, rather than mislead its audience. The relevance of fake news has increased in post-truth politics (and) for media outlets, the ability to attract followers. Hostile government actors have also been implicated in generating and propagating fake news, particularly during elections. Fake news undermines serious media coverage and makes it more difficult for journalists to cover significant news stories says Wikipedia. The largest online encyclopedia goes on Micheal Radutzky. said (he considers) fake news to be stories that are provably false, have enormous traction (popular appeal) in the culture, and are consumed by millions of people. These stories cannot only be found in politics, but also in areas like vaccination, stock values & nutrition. He did not include fake news that is invoked by politicians’ against the media for stories that they dont like or comments they dont like. Guy Campanile,. says what we are talking about are stories that are fabricated out of thin air. By most measure deliberately, and by any definition, thats a lie. Unfortunately, Nigeria today witnesses a situation whereby, the fake news sector is being widely patronized by political entities whos major target falls within his group of perceived enemies. Fake news has become a viable tool in politicking.
Claire Wardle of First Draft News identifies seven types of fake news which include:
Satire and Parody (no intention to cause harm but has potential to fool)
False Connection (when headlines, visuals or captions dont support the content)
Misleading content (misleading use of information to frame an issue or an individual)
False Context (when genuine content is shared with false contextual information)
Imposter Content (when genuine sources are impersonated with false, made-up stories)
Manipulated Content (when genuine information or imagery is manipulated to deceive; as with a doctored photo)
Fabricated Content (news content is 100% false, designed to deceive and do harm)
HOW TO SPOT FAKE NEWS

Am pretty sure this post is for dummies. With a functional brain, you spot a fake news immediately you see one.

I doubt if you're right there, because not all news that's fake actually looks FAKE, how about an original news which is falsely reported.
