Big shots in the Academia, the Media, and in Sports were gathered at the Senate Chamber of the University of Lagos on Thursday, 16th November 2018. They were all present to witness the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the University of Lagos and the Nigerian University Games Association (NUGA). The event signalled the official commencement of preparations for the 26th Edition of the NUGA Games which the University of Lagos has been elected to host in 2019.

In his welcome address, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, FAS, expressed gratitude to the leadership of NUGA for voting for UNILAG’s bid to host the tournament. He assured them, and indeed the guests that were present, that the University of Lagos will not let them down. He reiterated the commitment of the Local Organising Committee (LOC) to organizing a memorable event, encouraging everyone to look out for the ‘Mother of all NUGA Games’.

The President of NUGA, Prof Stephen Hamalyfeto, hailed the emergence of the University of Lagos as the host of the upcoming NUGA Games. He emphasized that having hosted two previous editions of the tournament, UNILAG has the experience, clout, and capacity to deliver a world-class competition from where the nation will discover, uncover and recover sporting talents who will do her proud on the global stage.

Thereafter, the dotted lines were signed by the top officials of both institutions and the official flag of the competition was handed over to the Vice Chancellor.

Also present at the event were the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Development Services), Prof. Folasade Ogunsola, FAS; Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics & Research), Prof. Oluwole Familoni, FAS; Registrar, Oladejo Azeez, Esq.; President of the Unilag Alumni Association and Chairman of Channels TV, Mr John Momoh, OON; founder of the first sports radio station in Africa, Dr. Larry Izamoje; and Olympic Gold medalist, Chioma Ajunwa.
