Have you ever wonder why some people are doing very well in their career and some are trying to cope even though they all have the same career pursuit? Why some, every day are in search of a fulfilling job and yet some have several options and their problem is choosing which offer to accept? These special breed of people are living a fulfilling life full of every possible opportunity while the rest are struggling to make ends meet with the attendance toil on their families?





The answer is not farfetched… the answer is that those making headway are always doing somethings differently that those struggling are not doing.



The first class of people who are making progress knew the importance of developing or growing their career by not only relying on the certificates they got from schools. They searched for the new set of skills that employers are in of need of and then go in pursuit of that skill so they can be equipped to meet those needs. They recognise that the economy is constantly changing and they made a decision to grow with it by upgrading themselves.





Now, if you below to the second class of people, people who are struggling. Have you ever asked yourself why you are struggling and not happy with the present position in your career even though you want to grow and be successful?

Let me give you a brief story about a friend; this friend of mine got chartered over six years ago. So as usual, he went in search of a job and could not find any for over four years. It got to a point he started attributing his condition to witchcraft from his village. I could remember him telling me one day that even if he can access a fifty thousand naira job, he would be grateful for it.



Imagine a Chartered Accountant with an excellent result wishing for a fifty thousand naira job. You can imagine how his condition was. But it wasn’t any witchcraft from his village that was preventing his progress but because something was missing in his skill set that employers were looking for.





Not too long that my friend realises that and immediately went into actions. Being a Chartered Accountant, he went into acquiring some accounting software skills like; QUICKBOOK accounting, SAGE PASTEL EVOLUTION, SAGE 50 and TALLY ERP9 Accounting.





And behold less than three months after the skills acquisition, he was invited for an interview and his first basic salary offer was N130, 000. And six months after that, something else happened; his salary was increased to N200,000 excluding other benefits.

This was the same friend that was wishing to get an N50,000 job a year earlier.





It’s only when you become serious about doing what others successful people are actually doing that you too can hope to get their result for yourself.
