Well I can pardon your ignorance because it shows you don't anything about military operations and intelligence gathering. In any given operation or military activity the three forces must work in coordination though sometimes two can he available due to some things. In this case army and air force are always working together in land fight mostly. Please note that. Now to your question intelligence gathering can be done in two ways 1 human surveillance and air surveillance for the sake of explanation since the mercenaries are more capable to task different things to do the work than ur airforce yes they still can be working right now and we dont know it.

Well I think passingshot is not dumb.

I think he has patronized it by ignoring intelligence warnings from a reliable regional power like South Africa. I disagree with bolded. The long-term strategy for winning should be massive recruitment, training and massive acquisition of hardware. But all that takes times. With soldiers dropping dead and the army close to being in disarray, mercenaries are a good idea in the short term. Buhari should have focused on arming and recruitment once he disengaged the mercs or maybe he should even have retained them for a little longer. At least, they recorded huge successes when they were here. Mercenaries are bad news, yes, but war is already bad enough and these guys were effective.
