Yellow fever is a one of the most common viral infections mostly associated with tropical regions of Africa and South America. This viral infection is carried and transmitted by a type of mosquito know as Aedes Genus. When this virus is contacted, it causes fever, vomiting, nausea and headaches. Yellow fever is not contagious or transmitted from person to person.

CAUSES OF YELLOW FEVER
Aedes genus is the major type of mosquito responsible for transmitting yellow fever virus. This type of mosquito can survive and breed in habitats near water.

SYMPTOMS OF YELLOW FEVER
During the incubation period (first six days after contacting the virus) symptoms are hardly detected. Although, when it evolves to the acute stage, some symptoms may surface. These symptoms are more similar to those of malaria and dengue fever. Most of the symptoms of yellow fever includes:
1. High fever and chills
2. Headaches
3. Loss of appetite
4. Vomiting

These symptoms may disappear within several days. However, Symptoms may escalate into a more severe phase. This is the toxic phase which is more serious and life threatening. These symptoms includes:

1. Jaundice.
2. Abdominal pain
3. Severe Vomiting (may include blood)
3. Kidney and liver failure
4. Reduced heart rate
5. Decreased urination
6. Brain disorder (delirium, seizure and coma)

This disease can be really deadly at this stage. It is estimated that about 40 percent of severe yellow fever cases has resulted to death.

The treatment for Yellow fever is basically by managing and supportive care in the hospital. This is because no antiviral drug has proven to successfully treat this illness. Controlling the body temperature, blood pressure and heartbeat are essential when treating this illness. Also, pain relieve medications can be helpful to ease the pain around your joints.
