As ferry transportation becomes more accepted everyday in Nigeria, especially Lagos, its pertinent that those who want to make use of this means of transportation are aware of the safety procedures.

Here are some tips to keep you safe when transiting via a ferry .

1. When boarding don’t rush, be patient .

2. As the name implies, a life jacket is built to save your life. Please wear one, or don’t board at all.

3.Hold kids tight, don’t let them play around

4.Learn how to swim, especially if you are going to use this means of transportation frequently.

5.If the ferry looks and feels over crowded, its best to take an alternative means of transportation or wait for another ferry.

6.Remain seated always

7.If the weather is bad, or you see signs of possible rain fall, take an alternative means of transportation

Have you made use of this means of transportation ?. Kindly share your experience.

Prevention is always better than cure. Always put on the life jacket even if you can swim through the red sea.

Nice tips but you forgot to advice frequent users about the need to buy a lifejacket that's trusted and tested. 2ndly, the *Seahorse* brand used by a popular ferry service Marina / Apapa is just hung on the passengers. They should stress the need to ensure a smug fit so the jackets saves lives instead of pulling off as soon as they are in the water.

Every individual intending to adopt water transportation should at least have a basic knowledge of swimming... Floating on water is quite easy... Incase of mishaps, you could hang on till help comes around..

You think front-page appearance is necessarily based on number of comments?

Life jacket saves life when you are afloat, not when you couldn't get out of the enclosed boat.

Nigeria government is the most useless govt in the whole world.

I ply through ferry en route apapa daily, no emergency speed boat, no law enforcement agency. All they are interested is the tax
