A cousin recently(76RRI) trained in the Nigerian army recruitment Depot(depot NA).He said the training was really demanding and dangerous too. Sometimes individuals lost their lives in the process of the training. He told that they hardly sleep at night and for the period he was undergoing training, he could count how many nights he slept for alteast 3 hours(night) so horrible. The Instructors are so cruel and full of anger as if they had personal hatred for you being there. If you complain when on these intense training you are in trouble. If you dare make any moves like you are about to abandon the training and flee, da..mn, you are DEAD on that parade ground. The punishments are either very hard and often obviously illegal punishments. Purnishment like cleaning toilets or moving heavy objects, sitting on your head. Other punishments include doing push ups, colleagues being ordered to flog you like fulani cows, drinking soap, eating mud from the gutter, punishment that are not meant for human

In turn they transfer that anger on Civilians.

Whereas the same military traning in the western world turns their soldiers into the most gentle, respectful and courteous men who will never raise a hand on the people they were trained to protect.

Soldier go call civilian "Yes Sir, Yes maam."

Nevertheless everyone knows if you mess with a US trained soldier you could be dead under 30 seconds.

Having watched many documentaries on military training and all I don't think ours is any different! Boot camp isn't for sissies and it's not for everyone! No training Depot in this world assume a kind nice or friendly atmosphere...

Joining the nigerian is one of the worst things that can happen to a man.i'd prefer that your cousin join the military in a worthy country than sacrificing himself for this useless territory termed nigeria.

Rubbish, eating soap is training. Nonsense. Is that how they train in the US or UK that brought the knowledge down to Africa. Honestly, I hate the sound of Nigeria Army training.

Is this illegal? They could argue these obviously illegal punishments are not mandatory, but there is an incentive to do them because the other punishments are so difficult.

Their training over there are also hard and cruel. In fact, it will seem as if they have personal beef with u but it is to make you stronger and tough.
Though they don't force you to eat mud, soap.
You may be asked to trek for miles in full military gears or float in cold rivers with your plantoon members till morning

Those trekking with heavy gear, floating in cold rivers are normal situations that you might have to contend with in battle or to survive in the wilderness when things dont go according to plan .

Imagine .... Nigerian Army believes you have to be wicked to inflict maximum injury on the enemy... Thus, they trained dem boys wickedly !!

The western world believes you have to be strengthened physically and psychologically to inflict maximum injury on the enemy and withstand maximum injury from the enemy !!

Why is everything about the mentality of this country wrong .....

Nigeria's current software of "Rulers Oppress Subject " needs to be uninstalled and a modern software of " Leaders serve Citizens" installed.

Yes, true. Other countries have boot camps that are more brutal than this but they don't give inhumane drills like eating mud or drinking soap water or telling recruits to start flogging each other. It's just ridiculous.

Hahahahaha! A bosom friend now retired after a fulfilling career and attaining the rank equivalent to a Colonel in the NA once had the leftover water and contents in a pot in which semovita was made turned over his head located by a gutter just because a Senior Officer considered that my friend did not salute him well enough! Beasts! That’s how they die with pot bellies spilled over the steering of Tundras having stolen the Defence Budget! Smart and efficient Soldiers are nit cruel! They are fine gentlemen who win battles and wars by military strategies not cruelty! Norman Schwarzkopf who died at 78 in 2012 won the Desert Storm War in Iraq for America when he developed and deployed the C2 command concept that swiftly won the the war! He was not known to be a cruel Officer but a good General who at 6 feet 3 towered about most soldiers and remained an officer and gentleman to his last day on earth when he succumbed to pneumonia! Fine soldiering is not about brawn and no brains! Our military and police outfits seem to have continued to train its human assets using colonial mentality of brute force that was conceived to train men just to fight obeying the last order and not thinking! Little wonder, Fela referred to them as Zombies!
