Nigerian doctors are currently revolting against the Nigeria Medical Association on Twitter afyer the kater decided to impose a compulsory 20K building levy on all doctors in addition to the 10K annual practising license. The hash tag has gathered more than a thousand tweets in just less than an hour.

This is unacceptable. No prior notice. No release nor poat. You can't pay for the compulsory annual license fee, without first paying for a building we know nothing about. This is how corruption start. When you are paying for something you know nothing of. It's appalling

My dear Elders, Teachers and Colleagues, at the last NMA NEC meeting in Osogbo, the NOC proposed a building levy payable by all members of the Association.
Although the mode of payment was not clearly spelt out, at the leadership retreat in Lagos (the President was absent) we were informed that the NOC will organize meeting with the different NMA zones where members will be sensitized before the commencement of payment.
I wish to inform you that the NMA President has confirmed the commencement of the payment on another forum today (painful as the decision may be) there is definitely a communication gap between the President and the Secretary General for the wrong information passed during the leadership retreat.
As it stands now, it seems the building levy payment is inevitable. If there is any other information to the contrary we will duly inform you.

Dear members of our great profession.
We have received complaints from our members who tried to register for the renewal of their annual practicing licence of the introduction of indemnity insurance and NMA building levy on the remita page.
We want to categorically inform our members that none of these levies were to the best of our knowledge approved by the NEC and as such can not be imposed on our doctors.
While trying to get clarification from the NOC, we urge our members to temporise payment for now until after Uyo NEC coming up in two weeks time.

In summary, MDCN doesn't have the right to levy every doctor to pay for NMA . NMA is a voluntary organisation

Many Nigerian doctors are really underpaid.

And for them to say they should go and pay 20k without knowing where the building will be or whatever the building will look like , seem inappropriate

Instead of the NMA being a body to apply for funds from government under the FMOH via Prof.Isaac Adewole (who said some doctors can become farmers) they are busy about to fleece their own colleagues.

Let them not near LUTH doctors who have not receive any earnings in the last 4 months otherwise......

both coren and NSE are networked to exploit individuals.....they couldn't help fight for engineering corpers in getting into engineering sector during nysc,unlike doctors

During my NSE workshop we were told Student/Graduate members of NSE get redeployed if they contact the nearest NSE branch they were posted to, I don't know how true it is.
