Those pictures are NOT from any location in mainland North America.  They could have been taken in Mumbai, Rio or Manilla, but they most certainly are not where the obviously ignorant poster hopes they were taken. That disproportionately massive super-imposed American flag in the picture is a nice humorous touch though, I'll admit.

The absolute worst inner-city areas in America would feature high-rise housing projects, which certainly are squalid in their own right, despite looking positively civilized in comparison to much of Lagos, Nigeria, for example. As depressing as this simple fact will no doubt be, to all those third world villagers who loathe America on account of their repeated failure to gain immigrant status to flee there in search of free food-stamps, crammed tin shacks simply DO NOT EXIST ANYWHERE in the United States of America, from the east coast to the west.

For anyone anxious to see some REAL slums, I would respectfully suggest a comprehensive tour of Lagos, Nigeria, the Center of Excrement.

Ghettos in america are relatively more presentable and functional than most areas in ikoyi,Victiria island,festac town and 1004 high rise building in lagos where most suppose middle class inhabits in nigeria.

We shouldn't in anyway begin to compare our appaling environment with anyplace in england and america because that will mean that we are not truly facing the shame and the realty of our abject miseries and irresponsibilities.

Amaka did you read what I said. You see, if we leave nigeria, we would secure the united nation approval, because Chief Obafemi Awolowo has strong tie with China and Soviet union and france. He believed in socialism /communism and the Soviet union now russia knows that and china too. and Russia and china are well know for supporting Chief Obafemi Awolowo . We tried socialism /communism. The Unity party of Nigeria (UPN) was a socialism /communism party. france because we wanted a union with our brothers in Benin republic. He was jail because the northern govt assumed that he was training people in the republic of Benin  with the help of Benin govt to secede. 

I believe in capitalism but with a socialim like canada. People are suppose to help themself.

That why most of Lagos state have 3 storey building. There is no more land in lagos. Even people steal land in lagos. And kill there owners. My father lost several plot of land in lagos. Not one , not two but several.  An old house in ajegunle is worth about the price of an average house in canada. One of those house in the pictures is worth millions.

That why they need to create a state from ogun state and  name it NEW LAGOS state.   While the old lagos state remain LAGOS STATE.

If you look at the satellite pictures. and when you hear that people say fashola can not be beating in an election, they make you laugh. Fashola can loss an election, because fashola concentrate is effort in the island. The Island is a small part of lagos. All those picture you show fashola did this. Is mostly in the island.

Slum is slum, stop sounding like a broken record, the truth about life is that there's no where in the world that is PERFECT.

as the thread indicates, there are slums in the US even with their 200yrs existence.

You can't really compare poverty in America to the rest of the world. Yes, there are slums in America known as the "ghetto" or "barrio," but they are far more hospitable than the slums in Lagos or even in Johannesburg. In many areas of the United States, poor Americans have a welfare system to fall back on. I know people who were raised on welfare all their lives. With this safety net, people are given housing, a stipend for food each month and health care through a system known as MEDICAID. Even these "slums" in America have electricity, running water and even household appliances that even the middle class in Africa do not have.

But poverty is relative so you cannot compare the two.

And those pictures are definitely photo-shopped. You don't find many people living in those shelters in America unless you go to the rural areas of Appalachia. You will find people living in projects.
