The aboriginal Onitsha don't even see themselves as Igbo, they hate the igbo oppression on them.

They never supported igbo during Biafra war, they don't want anytime with igbo because of their margination done by igbos.

Onitsha should be given to Edo state..

It's not Edo state fault they don't like igboness..

Is it normal for ikwerre, igbanke, ika don't like been call igbo? Onitsha should be join to Edo.

When osibanjo get there I think oshiomole should lobby him to take it to Edo, their rightful home

NNAMDI AZIKIWE (ZIK OF AFRICA)
When Zik asked his grandmother why Onitsha people are said to “despise others”, she replied to him that “because we belonged to the Royal House of Benin and that we regarded ourselves as the superior of other tribes because they were not connected with Benin Royalty… it was taboo for us to associate with others.
This cultural separateness is rooted in dimensions of their legendary past. Nnamdi Azikiwe alludes to it in his autobiography, referring to a folk etymology of the term “Onitsha” said to be accepted by the widely-scattered people themselves: onini ncha, “to despise others”.

SPECIAL REPORT: Neglected Edo community without electricity, potable water, health centre, other basic facilities

The agreement I had with my wife is (was) ’till death do us part’ but I never expected it six months after marriage. She started going into labour about 2 a.m. in the midnights early this year but died due to unavailable health centre and poor road leading to the community.
“She bled seriously to the extent that the local midwives who deliver pregnant women in the community could not attend to her. I was traumatised but had no choice than to move on.”
This is the agonising account of Innocent Enoch, a 37 year-old-man who said he lost his wife during childbirth due to lack of healthcare facility in Kekere Community, populated by the Ijaws in Edo State.
The absence of a primary health centre in Kekere community is a major challenge for residents who have to travel about one and half hours to get to the closest health facility in Essi community.
Mr Enoch’s story in this riverine community located in a hard-to-reach environment in Ovia South West Local Government Area of Edo State is perhaps one of the reasons why Nigeria is rated as one of the counties with the highest incidences of maternal and infant mortality rate in the world.
Kekere is mainly an agrarian settlement with cocoa being the major cash crop. However, majority of the residents cannot maximise the benefit of their produce because the deplorable state of the road that leads to the community.

Three Days In A Week Primary School
PREMIUM TIMES observed that the only available school in the community is a primary school with a single block of four classrooms. Although well built, it cannot accommodate even primary one to six students.
This newspaper also gathered that the school, built during the administration of ex-Governor Adams Oshiomole, is now in a poor state due to dilapidated facilities.
The classrooms can only be located through a narrow pathway as tall bushes already covered the school, exposing pupils to danger from reptiles and “As you can see the classes are not enough. Students are ‘merged’ together. Primary one students and primary two are merged, likewise other classes. Since the school was built during the regime of Oshiomole, we’ve not seen any government official even for inspection,” Ngozi Agwu, a resident of the community said.
This reporter observed that during a period the school was in session, no student or staff was present.
Upon investigation, PREMIUM TIMES gathered that the school only functions three times in a week because the few teachers in the school live in faraway Benin City

“Today is Tuesday, the few teachers here are residing in a faraway Benin City, they only come to teach the pupils three times in a week because of the hard-to-reach axis of the community and the poor state of the road,” Ms Agwu said.
PREMIUM TIMES also gathered the only alternative school located in the neighboring Lakaloko has only two classrooms for over 150 pupils

Polluted River

For over 1000 residents of the village, there is no single source of potable water. The alternative source of water for the community is the polluted river which exposes them to water-borne diseases.
With what PREMIUM TIMES witnessed at this community, one could easily conclude that their case perfectly matches the life lived by people during the Neolithic era, when pipe-borne water or even a wash-borehole was still a mirage. However, this is actually happening in the 21st century Edo State
“No single source of water except the river. People from houses without toilets defecate in this river and yet still use it to prepare food. Many have been sick and upon return from hospital, they still have to settle for the water.
“Sachet water is sold in some places here for N20 each because of the stress and how difficult it is for sellers to get it from the city to this village,” Adams Farouq said

Another resident simply identified as Chinwe who spoke with PREMIUM TIMES on the bank of the river also expressed her displeasure over the situation.

Benjamin Ryan Tillman (August 11, 1847 – July 3, 1918) was an American politician of the Democratic Party who served as Governor of South Carolina from 1890 to 1894, and a United States Senator from 1895 until his death in 1918. A white supremacist who opposed civil rights for Black Americans, Tillman led a paramilitary group of Red Shirts during South Carolina's violent 1876 election. On the floor of the U.S. Senate, he frequently ridiculed Black Americans, and boasted of having helped to kill them during that campaign.

"Pitchfork Ben"
In the 1880s, Tillman, a wealthy landowner, became dissatisfied with the Democratic leadership and led a movement of white farmers calling for reform. He was initially unsuccessful, though he was instrumental in the founding of Clemson University as an agricultural school. In 1890, Tillman took control of the state Democratic Party, and was elected governor. During his four years in office, 18 Black Americans were lynched in South Carolina—the 1890s saw the most lynchings of any decade in South Carolina. Tillman tried to prevent lynchings, but spoke in support of the lynch mobs, stating his own willingness to lead one. In 1894, at the end of his second two-year term, he was elected to the U.S. Senate by vote of the state legislature.

Tillman was known as "Pitchfork Ben" because of his aggressive language, as when he threatened to use a pitchfork to prod that "bag of beef", President Grover Cleveland. Considered a possible candidate for the Democratic nomination for president in 1896, Tillman lost any chance after giving a disastrous speech at the convention. He became known for his virulent oratory, especially against Black Americans but also as an effective legislator. The first federal campaign finance law, banning corporate contributions, is commonly called the Tillman Act. Tillman was repeatedly re-elected, serving in the Senate for the rest of his life. One of his legacies was South Carolina's 1895 constitution, which disenfranchised most of the black majority and ensured white rule for more than half a century.

Early life and education Edit
Benjamin Ryan Tillman Jr. was born on August 11, 1847, on the family plantation "Chester", near Trenton, in the Edgefield District,[a] sometimes considered part of upcountry South Carolina. His parents, Benjamin Ryan Tillman, Sr. and the former Sophia Hancock, were of English descent.[1][2] In addition to being planters with 86 slaves, the Tillmans operated an inn. Benjamin Jr. was the last born of seven sons and four daughters.[3]

Edgefield was known as a violent place, even by the standards of antebellum South Carolina,[4] where matters of personal honor might be addressed with a killing or duel.[5] Before Tillman Sr.'s death from typhoid fever in 1849, he had killed a man and been convicted of rioting by an Edgefield jury. One of his sons died in a duel; another was killed in a domestic dispute. A third died in the Mexican–American War; a fourth of disease aged 15.[2][6] Of Benjamin Jr.'s two surviving brothers, one died of Civil War wounds after returning home, and the other, George, killed a man who accused him of cheating at gambling. Convicted of manslaughter, George continued to practice law from his jail cell during his two-year sentence, and was elected to the state senate while still incarcerated.[6][7] He later served several terms in Congress.[8]

From an early age, Ben showed a developed vocabulary. In 1860, he was sent to Bethany, a boarding school in Edgefield where he became a star student, and he remained there after the American Civil War began. In 1863, he came home for a year to help his mother pay off debts. He returned to Bethany in 1864, intending a final year of study prior to entering the South Carolina College (today, the University of South Carolina). The South's desperate need for soldiers ended this plan, and in June 1864, still not yet 17, he withdrew from the academy, making arrangements to join a coastal artillery unit. These plans were scuttled as well when he fell ill at home.[9] A cranial tumor led to the removal of his left eye, and it was not until 1866, months after Confederate forces had disbanded, that Ben Tillman was again healthy.[2]

After the war, Ben Tillman, his mother, and his wounded brother James (who died in 1866) worked to rebuild Chester plantation. They signed the plantation's freedmen as workers. They were confronted with the circumstance of several men refusing to work for them and legally leaving the plantation. From 1866 to 1868, Ben Tillman went with several workers from the plantation to Florida, where a new cotton-planting belt had been established. The Tillmans purchased land there. Tillman was unsuccessful in Florida—after two marginal years, the 1868 crop was destroyed by caterpillars.[10]
