Contrary to what the President and his team of loyal boot lickers have been hooting in the media for the past two weeks, the President has had more than enough time to sign the Amended Electoral Act.

The Amended Electoral Act successfully passed through both chambers of the National Assembly on the 30th of March 2017 when the Senate voted in favour of the passing the Act into law.

The Act among other things, recognized Electronic Voting and codified the use of Card Readers which has been a part of Nigerian elections since the year 2015.

Under Nigeria's Constitution, a law of the National Assembly can only become valid after it has passed through both chambers of the National Assembly and it has been signed by the President. If the President does not favour the law, then he has the option of vetoing it. So the question is, why doesn't Buhari simply veto the amended Electoral Act? The answer is that he is too much of a coward to risk the political consequences of doing so. Instead he has followed the unconstitutional approach of refusing to sign the law.

The President has had over a year and a half to sign Act. It has been presented to him Four times and he has refused to sign it Four times.

The delay in not signing the Electoral Act Amendment Bill therefore lies squarely at the feet of no other person than Muhammadu Buhari and not the National Assembly.

Jubril's desperation to rig the election is the reason why he doesn't want to sign the electoral bill into law.
