Benue South 2019: Why Abba Moro is the Candidate to Beat.

On a recent visit to Benue, the State was adorned with posters of politicians aspiring to various political offices; some of them grandstanders, others contenders. Of them all, however, the one that caught my attention was that of Comrade Abba Patrick Moro.
The name, Moro, does not sound strange. In all positions held by this Comrade, he has distinguished himself as a liberator of the masses. As his title suggests, the welfare of the impoverished members of the society is always his watchword, a perfect exemplification of the activist that he is.
One easily recalls, with nostalgia, his stint as the Chairman of Okpokwu Local Government Area of the State. Within this period, Comrade Moro embarked on an aggressive rural develop projects such as rural-electrification, construction of rural roads and the encouragement of mechanised agricultural practices through the provision of tractors and other farm inputs. Today, it is on record that no Local Government Chairman in the whole of the State has beaten his records.
Among his colleagues, then, his sterling qualities were well recognized. Each time he spoke among them, he spoke with authority and his colleagues would wish he never ended any his speeches. Perhaps, it was in recognition of his ability to withstand intimidation that he was chosen as the State Chairman, Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), a feat he was able to achieve despite being from the Idoma ethnic stock. With him at the helm of affairs, his colleagues never regretted their choice. This was due to the effective representation of their collective interest and his ability to give a strong voice to the Association.
Towards the end of his tenure as Council Chairman, those who had seen the enormous works of Comrade Moro in Okpokwu prodded him into aspiring for the governorship of the State. In spite of the sell-outs, treachery and undemocratic practices that characterised the primaries of his party, the People's Democratic Party (PDP) in 2007, Comrade Moro emerged third. Had it not been for these factors and some ethnic considerations, the Comrade would have been recorded as one of the best governors Nigeria has ever produced. Despite being cheated out, Comrade Moro never rocked the boat; he rededicated and submitted himself to the internal workings of the Party, executing various assignments for it.
Those who have good knowledge of his tenure as Pro-Chancellor of the Federal University, Makurdi can attest to the length Comrade Moro can go to ensure that right things are done. Of particular reference they may recall how his tenure saw to the end of the tenure of the University Registrar/Secretary to Council and the eventual appointment of a new one, Barr. C. C. Ohemu. It is worth mentioning that Barr. Ohemu's successor had stayed for about a decade.
Although it needs no mentioning, even the opponents of Comrade Moro would not shy away from recognizing the extent to which he went, as Minister of Interior, in order to provide job opportunities for Benue indigenes. Today, it is commonplace to see so many Idoma and Benue indigenes in the employment of various paramilitary agencies. It is on record that no one had provided this kind of opportunity before Comrade Moro, and up till this moment, no Idoma politician has beaten his record. I dare anyone to come out with a contrary proof. In fact, the conferment of Ogigo m'ebe K'Idoma, was a testament to this fact.
It is a truism that when achievements become numerous, you lose count. As such, given the spectacular nature Comrade Moro has handled all previous leadership positions to the admiration of everyone. He has also been a worthy representative of the Idoma nation to the extent that his opponents should, naturally, have withdrawn from the race for him. This is because in the positions they had all held, they had not lifted the poor masses as did Comrade Moro.
Comrade Moro is an articulate orator who would drive home the interests of the Idoma Kingdom on the floor of the Senate. He is one whom I foresee to sponsor bills and motions for the upliftment of the poor masses. He is one who never detaches himself from the grassroots.
As one who has been confirmed to be trustworthy and representative, I urge all those who love the Idoma nation to put all forms of sentiments aside, vote Comrade Abba Patrick Moro (APM), The Bridge.
