Mama Nonye highlighted from the Danfo that brought from the market. From the bus stop to her compound was less than ten poles. The distance was short but she wished her legs could carry her a little bit faster than what it is doing now. She was worried. It was not the hot sun that worries her or the often aggressive bargaining she had done at the market. What troubles her was that she was about forty five minutes later than she had expected.
Mama Nonye had hoped to return home from the market before 1:00pm –the time her daughter’s school vacates. So she had not bothered to drop off the keys to the living room with Iyawo Akeem, her neighbor. To make matter worst, she had not instructed anyone to take care of her daughter once she returns back from school in her absence.
Mama Nonye was not surprised to see her daughter sitting on the low pavement that demarcates the compound's gutter from the rest of the frontage. Her school bag was still at her back and her lunch box was resting against her feet. She was looking really tried and far too exhausted. Nonye did not see her coming. She instantly felt pity for her.
When Nonye finally saw her mother, she sprang to her feet in the agility of a tiger about to bounce on a prey. She ran off towards her leaving her lunch box to fall to the ground. Mama Nonye who was carrying comestibles she had bought from the market in both hands, simply opened up and steadied herself for her daughter’s hug. Nonye hugged her mom in a very passionate embrace. She pressed her body against hers’ as if she had no intention letting go of her. Nonye is barely taller than her mother’s waist. Mama Nonye was not in a hurry to break the embrace. She allowed her to have her fill. Nonye in her heart felt relieved that she had absolutely nothing to fear, especially of the tormenting beast, now her mother is around.
Mama Nonye as an experienced caring mother had at once, noticed the awkwardness of her daughter’s run towards her. Most of all, she felt the fear in her embrace. She simply brushed it all aside, by attributing it to be the effect of a stressful day at school. Her lively daughter was unusually calm.
Mama Nonye took her daughter inside, had her take her bath, eat her lunch and make her lie down into a very deep sleep. She was woken up in the evening to take medications when her mother discovered that she was running a temperature. Nonye was even forced by her father, who was carrying a cane, to eat up her dinner which she barely finished. Then she was allowed to sleep again. Her mother was bothered, noting that Nonye hardly sleep for this length of time. Her husband will not take to what he considers to be an unnecessary panic by women. He felt it could just be malaria fever –a very common ailment in the area considering the sanitary state of the neighborhood.
That night, Brother Fidelis carried out his mid-night prayer sessions and his normal early morning cry. There was absolutely nothing to be bothered about. His deeds are forever concealed behind a curtain of grave fear; a fear of hellfire.

***

All hell was broke loose in the morning. There was commotion in the entire compound. There had been a very loud scream from a room in the main building, later discovered to be Mama Nonye’s voice. At first, they all thought it to be the usually common quarrels between a husband and his wife. But the screaming became louder and more ferocious. The older women like Lolo Beatrice and Iya Jide were the first to run toward the room to check out what the problem was.
When inside, they met Papa Nonye trying to restrain his wife, as the older children tries to console their mother. Sleeping helplessly on the bed is Nonye. She was naked with only just pants on. The pant was red. Though Nonye looked tired, but she was very much alive. This left the women even more confused. They could not see what the screaming was all about until when Lolo Beatrice took a step closer towards Nonye. She was alarmed by what she saw. What she had mistook for a red pant was indeed a blood soaked pant. Nonye was bleeding profusely. When Iya Jide came closer, she too was alarmed. She immediately rushed off to her room to fetch some herbal remedies that could possibly stop the bleeding.
At this point, other neighbors have gathered. The number of people outside was so much that Iya Jide had to literarily fight her way back into the room. In her hands was a bowl, browned with age, containing a large ball of cotton wool and a bottle whose content is a thick dark liquid. The older continued to attend to Nonye in almost absolute silence; expect for the “sorry” and “its ok” they had to say to her at intervals. The other women, some of whom were there strictly for gossip sake, had to persuade Mama Nonye to leave the room so the older women can work in relative peace. She fought and insisted on staying but after much persuasions and reassurances from her husband, she allowed herself to be led by the other women to the back of the compound.
Nobody asked what the problem was. All that mattered was getting the situation under control. The older women seems to know what they were doing as bowls after bowls of blood red water continued to leave the room. Those tasked with disposing off the water had to do it so discreetly, in order not to have Mama Nonye see them. It could, very greatly, have further unsettled her.
When the situation seemed fair enough, the older women proceeded to ask Nonye what it is that had happened to her. Though the women knew exactly that the injury was as a result of a forceful entry from an object probably the size of an adult penis, but they did not say it. Nonye was persuaded to say what had happened to her but she blantantly refused. She only moaned repeatedly, in very low tones, something that sounded like “Hellfire”. Not even the threat from her father would make her talk. Utterly frustrated by Nonye’s refusal to talk, the women decided to invite her mother.
“Girls are always closer to their mother. Maybe with her mother around, she might feel at ease enough to say something.” Iya Jide had said.
Her mother was called in. Her wrapper were almost dropping from her waist, and she doesn’t seems to care. But it was for the other woman who helped her hold it in place. She came inside with her eyes reddened with tears. She saw how helpless her daughter was lying and she burst into tears again. She was rebuked by Lolo Beatrice who asked her to “be strong because at this point, your daughter is looking up to you for courage.”
“She had lost a lot of blood already. Your crying is not in any way helping the situation. Just put yourself together and let’s get to the root of this problem confronting us now.” Iya Jide added.
“Nonyereme, who did this to you?” Mama Nonye asked in an emotion laden voice. She was sincerely trying hard to get herself together but it doesn’t seem to be working.
“Hellfire…. Hellfire…. Hellfire….” Nonye continued to murmur weakly.
“Chukwunonyereme” her mother called out again “Please look at me your mother. You know I love you so very much? And that I will do anything to make you happy? Please dear, don’t do this to me. Just tell me who did this to you.”
At this point, Nonye looked weakly at her mother for a brief moment and then looked away again into the distance. Tears came out from the side of her eyes, it went down through her side burns and disappeared behind her earlobes. Now her murmur became even weaker and more distant.
“Hellfire Beast…. Hellfire Beast…. Hellfire Beast….” She continued to say.
Chinonso, her direct elder brother, getting frustrated at how they were interrogating his beloved kid sister, walked up to her and touched her by her forehead as if to check her temperature. Chinonso understood his sister’s eternal fear of hellfire. He knew it was this fear that has prevented her from saying anything. He as well knew that offending God was the only gateway to hellfire. So he proceeded to ask his kid sister what had happened to her but first, he needed to get behind that fear barrier of hers.
Lolo Beatrice, who had little patience for little children trying to meddle into adult’s business, wanted to rebuke him and tell him off but she was restrained by Iya Jide who gave her a sign to hold on a moment. She was used to seeing Jide and Bunmi, irrespective of how hard they had quarrel or even sometimes fight, they definitely know how to get along again. Each knows the other’s soft spots. They had many times in the past left her stupefied, when she had interfered in their quarrel. All she does now is to stay neutral and ensure that there are no excesses from either parties.
“God said we should obey our father, our mother and our seniors” Chinonso whispered softly into her ears. “When we obey them, God said he will send Angel Michael to come down and take us to heaven. Angel Michael will ride on his big horse and with his big sword, he will kill all the demons including the evil beast in hellfire. Angel Michael will cut off their head one after the other and they will all die. Jesus loves little children that answers their parents’ questions. There are lots and lots of jangolover (rollercoaster) in heaven. The playground there is very big and we are going to ride on the many jangolovers (rollercoaster) in heaven. Just answer mommy’s question. Who did this to you?”
“Brother Fidelis” came the answer from Nonye. Though her voice was weak by it was loud enough for those standing around to hear.
Chinonso asked her the second time in a much louder voice and the answer remained the same.

***

“When the gods wants to kill a man, they first make him mad” goes a wise saying. Brother Fidelis had returned from his early morning cry feeling tired and in deer need for a nap. He had hoped to only sleep for a few minutes and then wake up to prepare for work. The sleep, however, wasn’t brief, but indeed, a very deep one. He was totally oblivious of the commotions outside. The many screams and cries had all gone unnoticed. To make matter worst, he had not yet find the time to dispose off the blood red water and blood stained face towel of the previous day.

BOOM! BOOM!! BOOM!!! Came the bang on his door. The sound seemed distance at first, but as consciousness starts to return, he began to realize that it was from his door. He was immediately aggravated at the one who has the effrontery to bang on his door in such manner. Without giving it a second thought, he went to the door and opened it with the intention of shouting and rebuking whosoever it was.
But lo and behold, what he was confronted with wasn't in the least what he had bargained for the morning. What he met was a very big fat hand that in almost lighting speed reached out and grabbed him firmly by his trouser. The hand in a single powerful swing, pulled him out from inside his room. When outside, what he met was total chaos. From almost every directions came slaps and punches and pullings and pushings. All he could make out was that Lolo Beatrice was at the head of a mostly female mob.
The mob were indeed very angry. Without warning, he felt hard objects land repeatedly on his head. He tried to dock with his hands raised overhead to prevent any more blows, but the firm hands of Lolo Beatrice on his trouser will not properly allow him do so. Nobody was asking any questions. Not even the slightest of opportunity to defend himself. Some were already calling for his head. For all they care, he is guilty.
Lolo Beatrice had taken this particularly serious. Apart from the fact that she is a mother to two girls, Lolo Beatrice has never gotten along well with Brother Fidelis. He was too religious for her liking and Brother Fidelis had been tormenting both her and her husband by repeatedly calling them unbelievers and in more cases than one once, made demeaning jokes at their lifestyle. Today was payback time. For Lolo Beatrice and many other women like her, it was more about personal vendetta.

Exactly. In as much as I would not want to sound sentimental about this issue, the majority of these abuses I have been able to understudy seems to have "percieved morally upright" men and women as cuprits. The Brothers and Sisters in the Lord; for whom we give so much respect to. It is a endemic societal problem, and we cannot continue to pretend like it is not there. I think one of the best solutions to this problem is for parents to educate their children more on Gender and Sexuality. There is never a time that is too early, but there could possibly be a time when it will be too late. The earlier, the better.
Thanks for taking the time to read through. God bless you.

CHAPTER FIFTEEN
It was a beautiful sunny morning. The sky is quite clear. Only little formation of grey clouds could be seen to the southwest of an otherwise clear blue sky. On the horizon, the heavens seems to have met with the earth. The sea was all blue as it mirrors the blue color of the sky. The waves of the sea, in aesthetical spectacle, continually assaulted the white sands of the beach. With the ocean currents, came cool and refreshing sea breeze which gently caresses the skin of the face and as well, threatened anything light weight that wasn’t properly anchored. The flexible straw-colored ribbons of the raffia tent fluttered about as if to compliment an invisible distant cousin. The beach was completely deserted. One will not see anything when one looks at either side of the beach other than an endless roll of sandy white beach.
Ausin and Chinelo are both alone on the beach. It was not yet weekend or a holiday season. The two lovebirds only craved a few quiet moment to themselves; a luxury the compound they live in could never have afforded them. It was quite very difficult for them to set this up. Austin has a very tight schedule considering the nature of his job. Chinelo on her part, is never free to leave the house expect on a very cogent reason. But where there is a will, there will most certainly be a way. They had both managed to locate for themselves an empty raffia tent with an excellent view of the sea.
On the bench fabricated from bamboo, they sat. Chinelo rested her head on Austin’s shoulder. Austin had his right hand around her waist, to bring her even closer to himself. They watch the waves of the sea in absolute silence. The silence was so whisper quiet that they could clearly hear the whizzing sounds of the sea breeze against their ears. Each was engrossed in a passion that no word will seem appropriate enough to express what they actually feel for each other.
Nonetheless, saying anything now will only spoil the romantic ambiance that have saturated them both. Chinelo wished they could just maintain their current position till eternity. She loved the smell of his skin and the feel of his big hands around her waist. She rested her left arms on his right thighs as she leaned even further forward toward his chest. She loves the cushioning effect of his pectoralis major against her head. They were just the perfect head rest one could possibly ask for. She placed her right palms right on Austin’s right hand with which he had encircled her tiny waist, terminating on her right thighs. With her right elbow pointing backwards, she held her palms in Austin’s palm. She played with his fingers by tracing the entire length of each nails. His palms were rigid, dry and felt very masculine. The hairs at his knuckles down to his elbow were hard. They felt like raffia sponge to her delicate skin.
Austin disengaged his palms from hers and proceeded to move it up her shoulders. He cuddled her pressingly closer to himself as if to reassure himself that she was still there with him. Chinelo feeling the strain in the passionate embrace, looked up to his face. He was looking far out; intensely concentrated, with eyes fixed on the waves that hit the sandy shores. She then moved her right hands to the right side of his face. Austin had had a shave two days before. His beards grows fast. She could feel the sandpaper-like effect his chin was giving off. With her fingers, she teasingly traced his whiskers, through his sandpaper-like chin and terminated at the base of his head.

***

Chinelo was enjoying the moment. She wants to savor every single bit of it; taking it all in as slowly and as steady as possible. Austin has been very generous. He had always done his best to make her happy. He goes as far as predicting quite accurately about her needs, while trying his honest best to fulfill many of them. Chinelo has never realized how lonely she had been until Austin came along. Though she had been as a hard as a rock and a pillar of strength to her younger siblings, she felt she too needed someone to pamper and nurse her like a baby too. Austin had brought her the first birthday present she had ever received. No one remembers her birthday and they never seems to care. It all came as a very shocking surprise to her. She did not remember telling him of her birthday.
She had only returned to the kitchen –after dropping off something inside her room- only to be confronted by an expensive looking boxed rose flower. The box was made of glass. In it were several red rose flowers resting on a cushion-like surface made out of a royal purple material she just couldn’t place. Also in it was a small palm-sized teddy bear holding the inscription “HAPPY BRITHDAY DEAR”. The gift was so beautiful and romantic. Attached to it was the most beautiful dress she had ever seen.
But strangely, no one was in the kitchen or anywhere around it. She strode to the backyard, passageway, boy’s quarters and even towards the bathrooms. They were all deserted. She knew it at once to be the handiwork of Austin. Pulling romantic stunts were his stock-in-trade. She searched him out everywhere but he was nowhere to be found. It all seemed like he disappeared by some magical means. It was achingly frustrating. With each frustrating search, the urge to get hold of him and tear him apart with a kiss grew even stronger. She just could not tell if she hates or loves it when Austin does these to her.
She did not see Austin for a day and half. When she finally saw him, there were too many people around for her to give him a ribs-crushing hug she had sworn to give him for tormenting her this much with his absence. Austin who seemed to have read exactly what was in her mind, gave her a tongue accompanied by the most heart quenching smile she had ever seen.
That day, Chinelo had felt so helpless that it brought tears to her eyes. She felt like not giving a damn about what people will say or think and just go hug her man as passionately as she possibly could. But she will not dare. The consequence will most certainly be grave. She considered herself to be too young and dependent to take such a risk. She loves Austin and will do anything for him, but she as well loves her parents too and will not do anything to dishonor them. Austin seems to perfectly understand her situation. He does not in anyway put her under the pressure of having her make a choice between himself and her parents while still this dependent. Austin is very patient and indeed, follows after her lead.
Chinelo had the gift hidden in her personal Ghana-must-go bag. Only her best friend Ada saw it. To show her deepest appreciations, she had wore the dress to meet him at the beach. Austin was putting on a white long sleeve shirt. The shirt was translucent enough that one can easily make out the outline of the singlet he is wearing underneath. Chinelo likes her man looking very smart and confident; Austin’s dress sense does exactly just that. He always look cool on tee-shirts, jeans trousers and a very simple-looking snickers to compliment. He possesses a string-like movement when he walks. In the neighborhood, his steps as well as others like that, are generally referred to as “Demo” –a word derived from the first four letters of the word "Demonstration". In the neighborhood, the "Demo steps" was indeed the trend; for it improves on one's swagger. It exhumes for the stepper firm confidence and the "nothing-dey-happen-for-here" kind of spirit.

Austin loves Chinelo so very dearly. There was not a single night he never dreamed of her. He saw in her a woman who will have his babies and help nurture them to adulthood. Chinelo had brought with her a perspective of life he had always had little tolerance for. She had taught him how to take things easy; for what will be, will surely be. He had once returned from work feeling very angry. His Supervisor had not been fair to him. He had repeatedly posted him to beats generally known to be crime hotspots. Getting to secure this beats takes a serious toll on the surveillance personals, with no added incentives whatsoever. Austin was not infuriated because he was asked to do his job, he was only angry at the fact that what was supposed to be a rotating task, has been exclusively reserved for those not considered to be favorites. Austin protested his reservations before his Supervisor. But his supervisor would not take any of it. He promptly issued him a query for insubordination. He was penalized by having part of his salary deduced. Austin had felt the penalty was too harsh. In his heart, he felt the need to resign, but that will affect his long held aspiration of becoming a bus driver. He has been saving towards that dream. Letting go of his current job without having any lying around somewhere was in itself stupid. But his anger at his supervisor was evidently beclouding his judgment.
Austin had come back home the following day after the end of his shift. He was wearing a long face. He opened his door and went inside his room without greeting anyone. Chinelo was inside her room when Austin returned. She immediately sensed that all was not well. It was unusual for Austin to return and go quietly into his room without saying ‘hello’ to anyone. Austin usually greets those around the boys’ quarters loud enough to announce his presence to his darling Chinelo, who he knows for certain will be on the lookout for him.
Chinelo could not go out immediately to him to verify what the problem was. They were both still keeping their affairs secret. So she had to wait a couple of hours feeling excruciatingly distressed at not being able to act immediately. She finally had her chance when the compound was quiet enough for her to sneak into his room. She had only knocked once. Without waiting for an answer, she opened the door and went inside. Austin was lying on his mattress. He was intensively gazing at the ceiling; deep in contemplation. He looked towards the door, saw it was her and then he looked back up to the ceiling again.
Like a virtuous woman will do for her husband, she effortlessly made him tell her what the problem was. She consoled him and gave a very rational evolution of likely implications of event for actions he intends to take. When she left a few minutes later, Austin was feeling uplifted, happy and reenergized. That event marks the very beginning of the thoughts that came to scare him most….the thought of losing her someday. This thought initially comes and goes. But now, it was coming more frequently and stays much longer before fading away. The thought of Chinelo waking up one morning and wanting something else; something better. The thought of her finding him boring and no longer as exciting, or even the thought of her just wanting to explore and see the other things the world could offer. All these thoughts tormented him. Austin felt he needed to do something about it. Something fast and decisive. He was going to put a seal on their love that no one, absolutely no one, will be able to breakthrough it.

***

Very few relationship in the neighborhood starts on the bases of love and even far fewer, ends in marriage. Relationships here, are quite strictly based more on the principle “of taking as much as you possibly can and giving as little as you also can possibly spare”. Relationships are solely about the needs of the individuals involved and what they hope to get out of it. For the male, it is customary for them to seek to satisfy their always-itching sexual urges. For the female, it is all about milking as much as you can possibly get. No one wants to get involved in a hopeless venture.
The love Austin and Chinelo had for each other had blossomed too well. With each passing day, they come closer to the realization that they were both created for each other. Though, they had intended to keep their love affair a secret, but it was almost impossible to do so under the piercing eyes of over a hundred tenants, both young and old alike. In no time, these lovebirds became an item of gossips –many of them malicious gossips.
In Gloria’s room, the five girls has taken notice of them both. They will scold Austin among themselves as to how foolish he was to have overlook them grownups and decided to settle for a secondary school brat. Gloria was the most affected of the girls. She had secretly nursed romantic feelings for Austin. Nothing hurts more than seeing someone you love, loving someone else. Without being able to help it, she felt betrayed. Betrayed that Austin could not spot her but spotted Chinelo instead. Just like Iyawo Akeem, Chinelo became the latest member in her legion of enemies.
She will not reply to her greetings or solicit her assistance for anything, not minding how pressing it could be. The worst of it all was that Gloria was making frantic but subtle effects to get her father’s attention to her affairs with Austin. She will never seize to make remarks whenever Mazi Okoro is around of secondary school girls who were already keeping boyfriends. She likes saying it loud enough to his hearing. But Mazi Okoro though not getting the message seemed not to care. The most he had done at one instance was to wonder aloud what the world was turning into and then he moved on again.

***

Austin was able to convince Chinelo on the need for them to go out on their first date and spend some quality time together; just the two of them. The condition in the compound will never allow them spend any meaningful time in each other’s arms that will be worthwhile. It did not take much to get Chinelo convinced. The only question she asked was “where is the intending location?” Austin told her that it was a beach; and that about that, does it! She accepted and asked Austin to pick a date at his own convenience, since he was the more engaged among them both. Austin concurred and promised to get back to her with a date.
Austin picked a date and strangely enough, it was a Monday. Monday is the first of the five working days in a week. A working day invariably means a deserted beach. In this part of the world, nobody goes to the beach on a working day. That was exactly what Austin wanted. Just him and his darling having the entire beach all to themselves.
When Chinelo was informed of the intended date, she felt very indifferent about it. She had only shrugged her shoulders in keen resignation. She trust Austin so very much to start disturbing her mind with negative thoughts about an innocent date. She knew that even if it were to be a weekend, coming up with a good enough excuse to leave the house will still take some serious head-cracking thoughts. But with a weekday, mom and dad will not be around to notice her absence. All that was needed was to just prepare for school like she always does.
She informed her friend Ada of the intended date. Ada stays with her parents. Her parents are always carefree about things like these. Her parents were once childhood sweethearts. So they sort of encourage childhood romance wherever and whenever possible. Ada is expected to cover for her in school and her house is to serve as her Launchpad.
The event all went as planned. Austin called in at the office to report that he was not in good health and will therefore not be able to make it to work. The two lovebirds met at their preplanned location; very excited and hoping to make the very best of this rare opportunity. Chinelo had Austin feeling like he had seen a ghost when she appeared in the beautiful dress he had gotten for her as a birthday present. Austin knew the dress to be very beautiful. That was in fact the very reason he had got it for her in the first place, but he never had expected it to be this extraordinarily fitting on her. Her body seems to have given the dress a much more profound aesthetic appeal, far much more than the designer may have possibly intended.

Austin had come along with a backpack. In it were refreshments for both of them. He made a brief stopover at an eatery to get for themselves certain comestibles. Austin had in his pocket some very personal belongings, to which he had been careful about, by not mentioning them to Chinelo. It was with these belongings, he had hoped to seal off their relationship forever.
Chinelo was the one who located the empty raffia tent. She had in her excitements beckoned in on Austin to come join her inside. They were relieved to find a bamboo-made bench in it. Austin unpacked his bag and they picnicked in silence. For Chinelo, it was her second time at the beach. Her first time was in company of her parents during the good old days. She was at that time the only child to the newly wedded couple. She now only have very faint memories of what actually took place that day.
“Let us take a walk along the shoreline” Austin requested.
Chinelo obliged him without a word. She was already feeling the strain of sitting too long on the bamboo bench. But she as well feeling the very compelling urge of taking a walk barefooted along the shoreline with her darling to her side; taking in all of the sensations the sea has to offer.
Austin stood up first and offered her his hands. Chinelo gracefully took it but held on it as she bent down to pull off her shoes. She then stood up and they both walked out cuddled in each other’s arms. Austin, being a native from a riverine community, favored the more daring outer shoreline. Chinelo being somewhat hydrophobic prefers the more cautious inner shores. She did not see the mischievous grin on Austin’s face as they walked along. They both maintained a steady pressure on each other’s body in order to avoid being pushed to where each do not want to be. Chinelo was between Austin and the sea, while Austin was between Chinelo and her cherished inner shores. Both were preventing the other from taking to their choice spot.
Austin had quietly, as well as mischievously, calculated when the next ocean current was due in. Without warning, Austin bend down and in a single swift motion, swept Chinelo completely of her feet by literally lifting her off the ground. He carried her up in both arms, like a log of wood, as he dashed off towards the sea. Austin ran like a demented kidnapper as Chinelo gave out hysterical screams in terror. She was indeed gravely frightened. The current came in and threw both of them to the floor. Austin was laughing uncontrollably now. He has succeeded in scaring the living daylight out of her. Chinelo continued to shout as she prys herself lose from her naughty lover.
She ran off to the shore crying and laughing all at the same time. Austin in fact laughed even harder when she started picking up sea shells to throw at him. The more he dodged them, the more ambitious she targets. Austin laughed and laughed and soon both were laughing uncontrollably.
Up in the sky, the grey clouds seems to be gaining grounds. Chinelo sat herself on the sands. Her dress were wet and sandy. Austin still in the water beckoned on her to come join him, but she mocked him by giving him a tongue. After a few moments of getting to catch back her breath, Chinelo bravely stood up to the impish encouragement of Austin and walked the few meters to the head of the wave. There she sat herself down close enough to have the current wash over her. Austin crawled to her and collapsed himself on her feet. The current came in and washed over them both. They both felt themselves moved slightly closer towards the sea. But this time, they both do not care. They weren’t going to fight fate. They will just sit and allow things to take their proper course.
After a few moments in silence, Austin felt it was about time for what has brought them here. Austin reached for his pocket and brought out what looked like a cut-price gold-coated necklace. The necklace had two pendants in the shape of a heart. Austin squeezed it into Chinelo’s clinched palm as she looked on with great interest.
“Let this be the symbol of my undying love for you. I know it may not look much to you but please accept it as a piece of my bleeding heart. The two pendants represents each of us. The necklace is the invincible cord of love that holds us tightly together. So long as the cord is there, nothing will ever be able to come in between us.” Said Austin in the most sensual voice he never knew to have had.
Chinelo was petrified. Her eyes were fixed on him. She in fact was as motionless as a statue. The ocean current came in again and wash over them. When it retreated, Chinelo saw droplets of blood. She was startled because she did not know from where it came from. She wasn’t injured in anywhere she know of and, she as well was to a certain extent sure that Austin was not having any serious injury she knew of. But Chinelo did not see the brand new razor blade Austin had folded in his palms. She also did not see Austin make a little incision on his right thumps.
Austin was lying on his elbow to the side right after Chinelo’s leg. She was sitting with both legs stretched outwards. Austin had made the incision when the waves were in allover them. Though he had brought out the razor blade together with the necklace from his pocket, he discreetly buried it slightly in the sands underneath his chest.
“I want to swear on my blood that I Austin will never let you go; not for any reason whatsoever. So help me God.” Austin swore as he held up his bleeding thumbs before her.
Chinelo was stunned. She never expected this. But as fast as it came, the initial shock gave way to an effusive expression. When she looked into Austin’s eyes, what she saw there, challenged her. Without a second thought, she unfolded his left hand, took out the brand new razor blade from his palms. She closed her eyes and relaxed her facial disposition in an effort to bear the pain from the injury she was about inflicting on herself. As she was about making the cut, Austin reached out to stop her. She open her eyes only to find Austin a few inches from her face. “Are you sure of what you are about to do?” Austin asked in an emotion-laden voice. Looking dead straight into Austin’s eyes and with a determined grin on her face, she made the incision on her right thumbs. It gashed out blood but strangely, she was not feeling any pains. She held up her bleeding thumbs to his face and repeated exactly what Austin had said but substituted his name for hers.
“I want to swear on my blood that I Chinelo will never let you go; not for any reason whatsoever. So help me God”.
Austin too was shocked. He had never expected that she will agree to an impromptu oath. He had in fact gambled it. He had hoped for the best, but he was as well expecting the worst. He had infact expected her to even react violently. But that was not what had happened. He loves her and she unquestioningly loves him in return. Nothing could be as heartwarming as this.
Chinelo took Austin’s bleeding thumb and placed it directly on hers. She exacted a little pressure by pressing them slightly tight together. Austin stretched out his neck as Chinelo arched hers and they kissed. It was the longest and most affectionate kiss for either of them. The troublesome grey clouds seems to have conquered the once clear blue sky. As they kissed; there came the rain. It came and washed away the tears that stood in their eyes.

Yeah, I understand. But don't you think your impression about Austin is a little bit too off. He is in his very very early twenties. An age difference of less than 5 years between a boy and a girl is for me very healthy. Or don't you think so too? Forget the secondary School thing. I once had a class mate back in secondary School who was dating a corper. Today they are happily married with kids. Ladies quite naturally perfers their men older.

I believe your classmate's case is like 2 out of 10 cases in which her relationship ended up in marriage. The world is already messed up anyways, we can only pray to God to lead our children right. Nice story all the same, the way you construct your sentences is just too good.

The thought of Chinelo waking up one morning and wanting something else; something better. love is a beautiful thing and some times make us to take unguided and irrational decision.from my own point of view Austin being older is taking advantage of Chinelo.I undastand his fear but he really went too faw.his insecurity is not healthy for this relationship.if he really think he love chinelo, the best way to go about it is to let his intentions known to the family.he should also put in more efforts towards making it big in life thereby proving even further to his intended in laws that he can take good care of their doughter.thanks for the update.

Just continue to stay glued. The story had only just began. Like I said before, it is a true life story of two love birds and how they both choose to end it. It will definitely blow your mind.

Now, I'm scared Austin n Chinelo might go d Romeo and Juliet way (Ur intro comes to mind)

Perfect description of a face-me-I-face-you apartment.... I like the way u give me a mental picture while I read, as in, in my imaginative mind, I actually saw the snooker place where the meeting was holding, and Jide counting the money to give to him

Although the one wey I no gree na d Homeys not acting up for the NEPA guys, NEPA no fit try rubbish for street o.... Guys that grew up in the ghetto will definitely relate

Fingers crossed... Can't wait for other updates
