A Brussels based conflict research and peace advocacy organisation, International Crisis Group (ICG) has identified six states it has described as violence-prone states across the federation, to watch out for during the 2019 general elections.

The states are Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Kaduna, Kano, Plateau and Adamawa State.

The group, in a recent report published with the title: Nigeria’s 2019 Elections: Six States To Watch, called on the federal government, other stakeholders and the country’s international partners to redouble efforts to prevent perceived violence around 2019 elections, particularly in the six states mentioned above.

In a statement signed by its Nigeria Senior Adviser, Nnamdi Obadiah and made available to LEADERSHIP Sunday, the group observed that “Nigeria’s elections have had history of violence, and there are already indications of potential violence around the 2019 polls.”

It said, “risks of violence are being driven by the ‘win or die’ attitude of many politicians and acrimony between the two major political parties, ahead of what could be a closely fought contest.”

Other risks identified by the group include, widespread distrust of security agencies, opposition parties’ misgivings about the neutrality of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), prevalence of armed conflict and violence in parts of the country, et al.

The group, which said while other states are not ruled out in the risks of violence, however advised that focus should be placed on the six states.

It further called on the federal government to speedily release all outstanding allocations to INEC and security agencies to enable them prepare adequately for the elections, thereby charging political parties to honour the Abdulsalam Abubakar-led peace accord.

I think Kano and Akwa Ibom States are top on the list of Flashpoints of 2019. Election violence.
This is not to rule out Sokoto, Rivers and Benue where efforts to dispose of Tambuwal, Wike and Ortom (respectively) via Federal Might thickens.
Kwara and Ogun states should also be on the radar.

Politics of hatred ke. No one has time for hate in Rivers politics. Politics of interests is what it is. The ruling party is only following the footprints of its founding fathers. Mafia style politics. Use any means necessary: In this case, the militants and cultists.
