Recently, I had cause to discuss with some Northerners on several economic issues. On the high costs of food items, they said the main factor was transport cost, especially from the Northern region to the South. According to them, Beans and some crops are cheap in Sokoto; Cows are very cheap in Borno etc. However, since these items are hauled in trucks, the transport cost accounts for the high prices in the markets.

If this is true, why didn't successive governments address it? Why didn't they construct rails to solve this problem?

I think we need to start focusing on issues that affect our lives as a people. We can not continue to sit idle and watch people in government
embezzle our resources to our detriment. We are at the receiving end.

This is a pathetic situation we have found ourselves. While waiting for the government ( Which I don't think they are ready), we hope to continue doing business the same way and keep hoping some people with great financial muscle come into the distribution chain to ease the cost. The transportation cost sometimes amount to half of the cost of goods.
