This one is certainly not groomed in Nigeria. He's after the development of his career.

Trust somebody like Ahmed Musa, Emmanuel Emenike, and Jude Ighalo, they can sign for Asante Kotoko of Ghana or TP Mazambe of Congo all because of the Benjamins.
If na u nko after playing monkey-post on the street for over 30 years and finally got signed after reducing your age to 19? grin

You will agree with me that mikel would have been a better player if he had followed his mind and played for Manchester United like he initially intended but big offer and other influence made him change is mind over night and signed for Chelsea. Now where is the mikel that was competing with Messi in youth football??
I don't think Mikel would have fared any better playing for Man U because he would have still be used as a DM. Perhaps if he played for a "smaller club" then he could have been used more as an AM and developed that role better. Though he does play AM for the Super Eagles pretty well.

Mikel has had a successful career. He has played well for Chelsea and country. You can’t push him to give more than he can offer. He has done his best. You people should stop believing that Man United would’ve made him a better player.
Has it ever occurred to you lots that he would’ve ended up like Veron at Man U or became a Robben at Chelsea or even a Fernando Torres at Chelsea??

Mikel played well at Chelsea. He made money, has lovely family and he is having a good time in China.

Where are his mates? Is it only Messi that you remembered? Of all his mates in the Eaglets and Flying Eagles, how many of them are still fit and playing active football?

At times it not all about the money, there are people who doesn’t play what mikel is playing but are richer than him but if you can have both, why not go for it. Mikel is one person i admire so much considering his career and family but he could have given more. I know his mate are not where he is today but his messi not his mate that is bagging world best and still have all the money he wants??

Why are so many of you Igbos so shamelessly cursed from birth. Imagine this irredeemable hatefilled bigoted soul disputing what is online. Many fools will chastise me for tagging his tribe in pointing out the absurdity of his claim but they will never point no tribe will ever do this in Nigeria except this hopeless Biafra from the land the sun will never rise.

Mikel made money and has a trophy loaded cabinet. He cannot have many regrets. He might not even have lasted that long at United. Nani and Anderson who came boasting similar talents like Mikel did not end up winning Balon d'Or at United. Yorke and Andy Cole were sent packing by Ferguson at United despite their earlier heroics there.

As good as Mikel has been, he was never in the class of Messi despite comparison in youth. And never was going to be.

Nwankwo Kanu and Ronaldo de Lima were both playing in Holland and both were compared in Youth. Kanu made the perfect move to Arsenal that played the skillful free flowing football.

Even if he didn't have a heart condition, he was never quite in the class of Ronaldo.

Perhaps the football training much earlier in life in top academies enhances near maximum exploitation of potential, not just the later training as a professional footballer alone.

Here is the thing about football...

You sign your first contract at 18, after which you have exactly 13 years to make as much money as you can before retirement comes....

And let's be frank, by the time a footballer turns 30, unless he is a genetic freak like Ryan Giggs, or very very careful with his diet like Ryan Giggs again....the body will begin to depreciate.(One English player signed a 3 million pound contract with a League 1 club at 31 years. His body did not last the first few months...before serious knee pain force am retire).

That's why most footballers chase after money. After all, once they enter their thirties, they have to think of retiring. (Their mates have at least 30 more years of work ahead of them).
