1. During the civil war, The General officer Commanding of Nigeria's Army 1st Division, Colonel Muhammad Shuwa Showed so much unprecedented respect for the Igbo's such that many Biafrans would look for ways to where he was to surrender.

Earlier in July 1966, during Nigeria's bloodiest coup that saw many soldiers of Igbo origin killed, Shuwa and his deputy Major James Oluleye made sure that no single Igbo officer under his command at the 5th battalion in Kano was killed.

Shuwa was murdered in Maiduguri by suspected Boko haram on November 2, 2012. He was 73.

1. In 1952, Mallam Umaru Alitine became the first elected mayor of Enugu Municipal Council. A post he held till 1958. A Fulani man from Sokoto who was married to an Igbo woman, Esther Ozueh. He was elected 2 times. In his second term he was asked to step down for another candidate of his party NCNC but he refused, he resigned and run as an independent candidate and defeated the NCNC candidate, D.T Inyang

Some of these kids are now successful business people and professionals in the United States where they were evacuated to during the civil war
