Let's make it a top to bottom approach and strike an equilibrium in the austerity measures.

I concur...

Slash down cost of governance

All the money budgeted for food, renovations, health, refurbishment, vehicles in Aso rock is too much. The cabal should not be fed fat while the workers suffer.

Also slash NA allocation.

This is the most DAFT, SILLY, STUPID and CRAZY policy I have ever come across.

As it is, the minimum wage is not enough and those who have managed to earn above this wage to take care of their families , will suddenly have to do with smaller incomes but the same amount of bills going out and same number mouths to feed.

Yet, the politicians who are supposed to be working for the people will not cut their salaries or relinquish their excess assets to help those less fortunate. Politicians also continue to bleed the country dry with their corruption.

Nigeria is teetering on the cliff of destruction and a revolution is definitely not impossible. You can only screw people for so long, eventually the there will be hell to pay.

There's nothing wrong with slashing salaries, the questions is what categories of salary earners would face the blade.

I believe this is some sort of Structural Adjustment Measures.

In defense

1.We need oil to be at $140 per barrel to get a budget that will enable us meet all needs and slash debts.

2.Oil is at $60 per barrel...if not less. That means for every barrel of oil we sell...we lose $80 at least.

3.We could have saved money if we slashed subsides, but because Nigerians have reacted any attempt at removing fuel subsidy fully since it means prices for fuel above N300 per barrel....

4.We have not been able to diversify because there are no ready markets for our agric produce like there was in the good old days of the 1960's...when the UK bought a lot of what we produced.

5.Taxes have gone up. They brought in an income of $5 trillion. Looks like a lot....but we need at least $3trillion for our universities alone(ideally!!!!!)

6. We can all agree on one thing....APC has failed. They have not done enough to change our economy, and they are not ready to tell Nigerians the truth, that our economy is poor, and we need a major austerity led project to become an industrial nation, we need to fight corruption not partially, and we need to do our part by paying our bills (most Nigerians don't pay for power at all). But even if we all vote PDP tomorrow...unless PDP has something better than 'JOBS' BETTER' etc....I don;t see anything changing.....

UNLESS....oil shoots up above $140 again

The thing is, if we want a developed nation, we all have to stop acting like babies expecting government to feed us at all time...which is a big part of why many Nigerian governments fail. The feeding bottle is one eighth full.....

any oil price above 80 dollars is a gift not a right , the true value of a barrel of oil is 60 dollars and any govt that says it wants oil prices to cross 100 dollars before it can work is a joker and not serious , it's like a father saying he will not buy baba food with his salary till he receives a bonus !!!

Again I would like to interject on this wrong notion that we are earning more from taxes now than under previous govt , in reality we are actually earning about 60 percent less in value if we convert figures to a more stable dollar ..5 trillion Naira in 2012 was worth over 30 billion dollars but today is Buhari it's worth below 15 billion dollars

Key Point.

I say Politicians ONLY.

Everybody else is struggling and there are many who earn good money but have to spread it across their extended families; to cut their salary means suffering for many.

i don't even understand what he meant by those earning above minimum wage. does he want them to be earning below minimum wage or what? minimum wage is just the minimum a civil servant can earn. each entity can decide on what to pay but it wont be below the pegged price.
