It's less than 40 days to the general elections and the Rivers arm of the APC don't even know their fate.They are barred from campaigning,they have a pending court case,they aren't even sure who there actual candidates are and their supporters are not but hopeless now with the whole situation.A drive round Port Harcourt City and Obio Akpor local government areas and you can count the number of APC posters you will see,that's if you manage to see any.The situation is worsened by the steady defection of APC Chieftains daily who rather than wait patiently for court judgement decide to jump ship as they feel the judiciary is in the pocket of the Executive Governor,Chief Barrister Nyesom Ezebunwo Wike.
Wike,it is well documented has never lost a case in the court especially the Supreme court where he has won so many battles from Ameachi house of assembly case in 1999,Ameachi's Governorship in 2007,PDP Leadership tussle in Rivers State that eventually forced the then Governor Rotimi Chibuike Ameachi out of office,to the Ahmed Markafi and Amodu Sheriff case.
For the Rivers APC the situation is hopeless as majority are beginning to see the writing on the wall and the possibility of them not having candidates just like the 2018 LGA polls in the state seeming a reality daily.Many also feel APC does not have the structures on ground to win the election as even a top APC Chieftain in the person of Ogboni Raid Aregbesola admitted it would be difficult to claim Rivers State.Most also feel any upset to the PDP in Rivers State would easily be over turned by Wike in the courts.
While Rivers State is experiencing one of the most one sided campaign ever,the good people of Rivers State can do nothing but sit and watch as things unfold!
