President Muhammadu Buhari only got to know about the trial of the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Walter Onnoghen, at the Code of Conduct Tribunal on Saturday, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has stated.

He also expressed sadness over the trial of the National President of Nigerian Bar Association, Paul Usoro (SAN).

The PUNCH reported that while the CJ had been scheduled to face trial at the CCT over the non-declaration of assets, Usoro is standing trial by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on account of payments received from Akwa Ibom governor for job done.

The Federal Government has, meanwhile, ordered the discontinuation of Onnoghen’s arraignment.

While absolving Buhari of pre-arranging the trial of Onnoghen for non declaration of assets, Osinbajo said Buhari never had any fact of financial misdemeanor involving the CJN until Saturday evening.

He expressed regrets that the CJN had to go through the process. He, however, said Buhari had issued specific instructions that anti-graft institutions should be allowed to do their jobs without any interference.

The Vice President made these clarifications in Abuja on Wednesday during a one-day conference organised by Online Publishers Association of Nigeria, with the theme: “Free Press and objective reporting in the 2019 election year.”

He said, “I must tell you in clear terms that, for President Muhammadu Buhari, his whole approach is that institutions should just do their work.

“I can tell you for a fact that he did not even know about this (CJN trial) until Saturday evening. I don’t feel good about it that senior members of my profession are being tried.



“He did not even know that there was going to be any kind of trial until Saturday evening.

“He had said categorically, ‘Don’t interfere with whatever institutions are doing.’

Sometimes, it has consequences such as we have today, such that people say, ‘How can such an important person be subjected to trial without the Federal Government?’

“But I can tell you without any equivocation that he (Buhari) was not aware.”

U guys should stop ranting . PMB might not be aware and I agree 100% with him . Being a president of the most populous black nation is not an easy thing to say the least. He has alot on his table, meetings upon meetings. May not even have time to read or watch television . It even happen to some of us that are ranting. If u stay here in Lagos , go to work where u face traffic go and come for more than 4hrs, tell me how u will read newspaper or watch television when u get to ur house pass midnight. Mind u , u were busy thru out in the office that u couldnt even have time to eat. I blame his special advisers, thats the reason for having them so as to be updating him on day to day happenings in the country. Sincerely speaking I blame Shehu for this laxity. It is his job to tell the president events around him. Even if PMB is aware, he have to also tell him or remind him. So u guys shouldnt blame PM8 at all. Couple with the fact that he allows u to do ur job without interferance.

*why was he not aware?
*is he aware of anything?
*who is in charge?

Dumb people,; in a sane society institutions do not need to take permission from the C in C to do their jobs.


The problem with Buhari is that he is trying to run a country of abnormal people in a normal way.

when we said it in 2015 , that the man isnt a pastors , some dumb dullards were insulting us. there is no way you will be eating and dining with a deeply occultic man like tinubu and claim to be righteous . what relationship does darkness have with light ? i am just surprised that under the nose of baba adeboye , a man like osinbajo rose to the post of a pastor but we cant blame baba adeboye , he is not God and cant know it all .
