I think this is a big mistake from the side of Atiku.

It's not.. If he had gone in for the debate. Anything he says, apc will use ham campaign against him. That was what they did to GEJ in 2015 when Buhari didn't attend the debate. Today would have been full of top stories. Debate date has been announced since November last year.. How can APC fix a rally on that same day?

Your guy will lose in FeBuhari.
Nigerians assuredly recognizes the options before us come February 2019, obviously the right choice is an Atiku team[A-Team] at the helm of affairs. Every vote cast for Wazirin Adamawa will be an eloquent repudiation of the A.P.C. government, our votes will mark an epoch as well as monuments for us and generation yet unborn because through the ballot box we will challenge sense of lethargy ,hopelessness, resignations, frustrations and the hypocrisy of an oppressive capricious A.P.C led government . An Atiku Presidency will further defeat the militating factors that impede our journey to a deserved greatness amongst the comity of nations. In deference to President Obama and for our people in the intervening months leading up to the elections, Our votes will proclaim “an end to the petty grievances, lopsided corruption, insurgency, nepotism and false promises, the recriminations and worn out dogmas that for so long have strangled our politics” Alhaji Atiku Abubakar buoyed by the audacity of hope on your imminent emergence as the next civilian President of our beloved country. I make bold to write that your mandate to rule Nigeria come 2019 is a “divine call” merely vested on you in trust and as a caretaker for the masses of Nigeria. It is neither for any emerging cabal nor political mongers even the over patronized elites cannot appropriate undue benefits. It would be in recognition of the “unsung, uncelebrated and anonymous Nigerians. Men and women scattered across the country

Atiku did the right thing... why debate on the policies of a man who cant dim it fit to defend his policies, while even calling them "POLITICAL DWARFS"...
He has created an open schedule to debate anyday & time the lifeless on picks along with other contestants. In America, France debates is between the seating president and top opposition

The thing here is that Atiku not participating made we Nigerians and other contestants look like fools, like as if his only contender is buhari and other presidential candidates don't matter, like they will lose woefully, so their debates don't matter, that is what I get from this whole drama.

[i]The truth is Africans have for sometime been in the dark in regards to the agenda of world powers. Now some are coming of age to see the original 419 and fraud that is and has happened in their land.

Buhari and Atiku have contested against each other in the past. They are working secretly in the interest of the same people.

Have you ever wondered why Buhari was the opposition candidate for 4 straight elections (12 years) and emerged each time under the covers?

Even when the original date for elections in 2015 was shifted PDP stated it was to enable people to get their PVC

But it was Bullsh.it, because Buhari was secretly hospitalized in YANKEE....and that was why the election was postponed until he was somewhat fit to "win" .

Now Atiku, a criminal suddenly is getting the support from those abroad, and can suddenly travel freely?

HMMMMM....

Anyway, you people allow yourselves to be deceived and corrupted.... It's a pity

The next president will be sworn in without having done a debate, townhill meeting, live interview, etc.

WHAT A SHYTHOLE NATION AND PEOPLE.

Your children will suffer...

Someone said ASUU has been on strike without attention by the government.

ASUU has always been on strike. No be today.

Obasanjo and Atiku supervised the longest ASUU strike while their own universities, Bell University and American University were running smoothly. Tell me if I'm lying.

Therefore, no be today. Issues with ASUU today were agreed upon by Jonathan PDP in 2013 but were never honoured till he left.

Agreed, government is a continuum but it shouldn't be portrayed in a way that look as if Buhari is solely responsible for the strike. Let's be fair in our contributions.

Buhari directed that #20b be released to them to pay arrears of Allowances but ASUU said it would not go back to classroom unless government make it #50b.

Buhari, no doubt, dodged the Debate.

Atiku couldn't have done better with those guys and he knew it.

Is Atiku that good?

Why was he looking for Buhari before he would debate to sell himself?

He got into the venue and left.

What was his reasons for going to the venue when he knew quite well that Buhari was still in Minna?

Is Atiku a super debater?

Is it only Buhari he can debate with?

Olodo!

He should have entered and let those young guys educate and teach him more about the economy he claims to understand.

He knew he wouldn't be able to debate with those guys even with all the lectures and statistics he brought back from US.

He, therefore, tactically withdrew for fear of being tutored by those young guys.

May God help us to have a peaceful election.

Only hate filled character would state that Atiku can't speak good grammar like Buhari ...videos abound as evidence but hate won't allow such person view one

Then going to America was an aide is one of the core proofs that BMC lack deep thinkers in their midst. No one can be an aide and a lead person at the same time. All the banners on display in every meeting he had with American official showed that he was the head of the delegation. America is not a shithole where intentions can be changed midway.

Those American groups invited him on his personal capacity and he went with his campaign DG who happens to be the president of the Nigerian. American deals with legislation and to be informed of the presence of the lawmaking arm is a bug plus for his meeting

To me debate or no debate does not determine the out come of an electoral poll. Our previous leaders (Tafawa Balewa,Shehu Shagari,MKO Abiola (not allowed to rule),OBJ,etc, who performed well at the polls and eventually won their way to the nation's apex seat did not engage in any electoral debate.

We,in Nigeria take unnecessary things and try to make them necessary.Just like going to overseas to campaign and sell and political agenda to them as if they're the ones going to vote us in or the ones we're going to rule over.

In Nigeria we need to grow up and emancipate ourselves from copy-copy slavery and be who we're.

What we ought to be concerned of is their individual credibility, sincerity, love for the country and her people, and not self and cronies mindedness.

Atiku’s Withdrawal from the Debate is a Tactical Masterstroke

By Farooq Kperogi

I’ve read commentaries that aver that Atiku’s decision to bail out of Saturday’s presidential debate in protest against Buhari’s decision not to participate in it was a tactical error. I disagree. Here is why.

The presidential debate is designed to be a match--or, if you like, a push and pull-- between the defending champion, i.e., Buhari, and contenders to the title he holds, i.e., Atiku, Moghalu, Madam Oby, Sowore, and others. If the defending champion declines to thrown his hat into the ring, the entire match becomes pointlessly self-injurious to the challengers. In other words, it would have been a fatal strategic and tactical error for Atiku to partake in a potentially bruising contest with other challengers while the defending championing sits pretty somewhere unhurt.

I’ve read other people suggest that Atiku, being Buhari’s closest challenger, should have used the opportunity of the debate to sell himself to Nigerians. Well, that’s what #NgTheCandidates town hall chat is there for. You don’t sell your agenda by making yourself vulnerable to potentially deathly blows from other challengers who don’t hold the title you are fighting for.

Instead of pillorying Atiku for not taking part in the debate, we should question the other candidates for agreeing to participate in a meaningless dueling match with each other when the defending champion who holds the crown they want to grab chose to run away. Their performance in the debate would only be meaningful if it’s measured against the performance of the defending champion.

From a tactical point of view, I also don’t blame Buhari for refusing to show up for the debate. His mental and physical infirmities are now on full display and would be exposed even more in the unscripted, back-and-forth format of a debate. The cabal that minds him already deeply regrets allowing him to take part in Thursday's town-hall chat because his cringe-worthy performance at the event dramatized his dementia and aggrandized his unfitness for the job of president. His campaign trail mishaps aren't helping, either. Another bruise from a debate would seal his fate before Election Day.

In a tragic irony, Buhari and Atiku are less qualified for the presidency than all the other contenders are, yet it is either of them that will emerge president in February. That’s why both candidates are more guarded and strategic in their choices than the rest.

Buhari is incumbent ruler, he does not even have to campaign to win election. He should just send out his designates to do campaign for him and he will win....without showing face to grassroot. That's how much power resides in that office.

ATIKU wants to displace the incumbent ruler, he should be the one in Buhari position out on campaign train and winning hearts. He has his work cut out for him....he has to work triple the effort to remove the incumbent.

Instead of travelling and criss-crossing Nigeria he is going to Dubai, going to London, going to Washington DC. …..he is abandoning opportunity to speak to electorate and win hearts because Buhari did not show up. grin grin

A. Rally is jamboree for street urchins, one way/unstructured communication

B. Debate: Intelligent/structured discourse for sane minds.
