Hello guys, welcome to another tech review, this post is dedicated to the newly unveiled foldable smartphones and why i think they are not ready yet.

Of recent, certain companies like Samsung, Xiaomi, Motorola have publicly presented their new face of smartphone technology, as well as LG, Oppo and some other companies yet to unveil theirs. These companies recently embarked on foldable smartphones to revolutionize traditional smartphone designs, notches and bezels. This new tech is super innovative and yet to gain full acceptance, and as it stands it has so many flaws and shortcomings, which include :

1. Insufficient technological support
As you can see in the pictures below, some of the foldable smartphones do not fold completely and leaves off a solid hinge on folding instead of a flat thin folded layer. This issues arise due to the fact that today's tech hasn't made provision for very foldable LED display screens

2. Software
From some videos on YouTube on the Xiaomi foldable smartphone, the folding process is seen to be filled with flaws in the later parts of the video as you either get glitches or unnecessary animations on the screen while folding the phone. Also, the delay and response time of these phones on every fold and unfolding is a major let down

3. Use Case
This simply has to do with the reason why one should use a foldable smartphone. Besides, the thrill of having to switch from a tablet look to a typical smartphone look all in a single step of folding and unfolding, there isn't much reason to own a foldable smartphone.

The idea of foldable smartphones is new age tech, we probably might not see much of it in Nigeria. At least it tells us companies are thinking big and the smartphone world is set to transform from what it used to be.

Let me and fellow nairalanders know what you think about this new trend, is it a YAY or a NAY ? and do we need them in Nigeria?
