Women -- The Gatekeepers Of Patriarchy

When engaging the subject of patriarchy, we rarely acknowledge the contribution women make in endorsing this evil, as it is in the public and exclusive spaces that women hold where patriarchal mannerisms manifest and men are placed on a pedestal, even in their absence.

Patriarchy a system of power dynamics where women are kept dominated and subordinate, and thus, prioritises men in both public and private spaces.

Appreciating that patriarchy is a deep-rooted construct, it means that even within a modern context, it keeps creating obstacles for women to succeed, even if they work on merit. It gives priority to men and the dominance manifests both within homes and in broader society; furthermore, patriarchy finds its strength in that it manages to adapt and find expression even in the changing of social and political spaces, and fundamentally, the buy-in from women to maintaining this 'phenomenon'.

According to radical feminists, in supporting this view, a patriarchal society is one where men appropriate all social roles, placing women in inferior roles, fundamentally so, it is a system which is universal and is not limited to time [Charvet, 1982].

We could then concede that patriarchy will require both men and women to contribute towards changing the status quo, and fundamentally for women to actively participate in changing this culture. Yet the question still remains, how do we place women at the centre of this change?

Firstly, we need to be sensitive to the fact that patriarchy as Lerner [1986:54] argues was not a "one-day event, but developed over a period of nearly 2,500 years at different times and places, from China, Mesopotamia, Egypt, India, Mesoamerica, Africa, Europe and Malaysia, and was formed by both men and women..." [cited in Wood; 2013]. This view was justified by the "rationale that women are emotionally dependent species and men hold the authority and are superior to them".

At least we can agree on a certain thing - patriarchy still thrive because most women still enable support it.

Patriarchy has been deeply rooted in certain societies to the extent that women in those environments find it hard to break free from the archaic system irrespective of their educational status .

I strongly believe if women were to come together and say it’s time for this shît to end there’d be no patriarchy but that surely might not happen anytime soon.

In Nigeria for example, how many women support feminism ? I can say less than 0.50% of the total numbers of women in Nigeria .

In the Igbo tribe for example , a typical Igbo woman will rather agree to be a Slave to men as long as men continue to provide everything she want for her than to agree she’s equal to a man .

Patriarchy is as a result of female dependence on males . You can argue this

When you depend too much on someone , the someone will try to exert control over you . This is just a fact of life

Even your parents at a point you’ll notice that the moment you stopped being too dependent on them and started doing stuffs for yourself that was when they stopped being less controlling .

MANY WOMEN DON'T EVEN WANT PATRIARCHY TO END. THEY CAN'T BEAR THE THOUGHT OF ACTUALLY BEING RESPONSIBLE AND IN THE FOREFRONT OF THINGS. THEY DON'T WANT TO LEAD, THEY JUST WANT TO FOLLOW, BE CATERED FOR, GET SOLD OFF IN THE NAME OF DOWRY PAYMENT, AND BEAR DOZENS OF CHILDREN. THIS LIFE IS THE DAILY DREAM AND PRAYERS OF THE AVERAGE NIGERIAN WOMAN.
ONLY A FEW EXCEPTIONS EXISTS. ONLY A TINY LITTLE FEW.

My friend you have spoken the truth . ‘This is the way things are

Women complain about the dangers of patriarchy but same women are the people enabling this archaic and outdated practice .

Patriarchy will continue to exist until women rebel against the system.

Lol.

The human society is generally patriarchal in nature. It IS a man's world. There is nothing anybody can do about it. Feminists labor in vain. Women will always look up to their men for protection and guidance. The myth of the strong woman who doesn't need a man is a fable.

Almost all cultures around the world for many millennia now have always recognized the male species of the human family as the dominant.

That's not to say women are inferior. Far from it. I personally don't want to live in a world where there are no women in it.

So, women are as important as the men, just...different. That's all. And no matter the efforts of feminists, feminist men, feminazis or other groups fighting the natural order of things, men will always be the dominant of the two in the animal kingdom.

The only way to end patriarchy is to scrap the marriage institution.

Marriage institutions in every culture were built on the foundation of patriarchy.

So, if women really want patriarchy to end, they should stop getting married. They should stop accepting marriage proposals.

They can get men to impregnate them. Then, they could live alone with their children and raise the children alone.

This is the only way for women to end patriarchy because as long as a man pays a bride price on you in the name of marriage, and maintains (as women love to put it) you as his wife, forget it, you belong to him.

I DON'T KNOW HOW TO BEGIN TO DISAGREE WITH THIS. IT'S THE UNFORTUNATE REALITY MY FRIEND @ELDER0001

AS LONG AS WOMEN KEEP EXPECTING MEN TO SEEK THEM, BUY THEM, TAKE CARE OF THEM, MARRY AND HOUSE THEM, MANY WILL ALWAYS SEE WOMEN AS PROPERTY, FOREVER INFERIOR.

NO MATTER WHAT IS DISCUSSED ON THIS THREAD TODAY WE'LL DIE AND COME BACK IN A HUNDRED YEARS TIME TO MEET PATRIARCHY.
MANY PEOPLE TRASH-TALK IT ON THE INTERNET ONLY TO GO BACK TO MALTREAT A WOMAN, OR ANSWER YES SIR TO A MAN JUST BECAUSE HE'S PAYING FOR HER DATA.

PATRIARCHY IS HERE TO STAY.

Long gone? Heck no.
Just got bored with most of you having nothing new to banter about.

How will 85%+ of the world's female population survive without their sugar daddies?
I fear you are asking too much of women.

Lol. You’ll call me “uncle” when you see someone in real life.

I still reiterate my earlier words that you lack wisdom.

Your words are unimportant to me. You are a random, faceless entity on social media.

You opened a thread asking people for their views, unfortunately it turns out that you aren't matured enough to tolerate opposing views.

That tells a lot about your personality or your age, or both.

For your sake I hope you're a pre-teen otherwise your chances of developing a matured cosmopolitan outlook to life is very slim.
