Only a slowpoke will not differ with Buhari's unconstitutionality. Nigeria is not a jungle. INEC Chairman is following the rule of law. There is stipulated punishment for ballot box snatching which is two years imprisonment without option of fine. What Buhari said was tantamount to killing a fly with a sledgehammer. I condemn election rigging or violence in its entirety. Buhari goofed on this. He should apologize to Nigerians for this rascality.
Are you a ballot box snatcher? Why do you have an issue with it? Why not let the ballot box snatch complain.

PresidentAtiku:

Professor Mahmood Yakubu has expressed the belief that ballot box snatchers should be punished only in accordance with the electoral law.

Good speech. ... But prof. Mahmoud should tell us how many ballot box snatchers has INEC under his watch punished in accordance with the law? Or he wants to tell us that no ballot box had been snatched in any of the elections he had organised.

OK if that is the case, how many ballot box snatchers had been punished in accordance with the law in the history of INEC? To me it seems INEC is complicit in ballot box snatching and electoral malpractices in Nigeria.

I can understand Buharis frustrations, he is being sabotaged by not just opposition party but by state institutions like INEC, the judiciary, the legislature, etc. At the end of the day he still gets all the blame for everything that goes wrong.

Well, two years imprisonment has never stopped ballot snatching since 1979 and it is not about to stop it in 2019.

INEC Chairman was talking about those who violate "electoral Act" of which ballot snatching is a part of.

What people like you forget is that in ONE ACT alone, you can commit various offenses.
For example, just hitting someone on the head can make you guilty of:
1) Assault, 2) Battery 3) Attempted murder,
4) Grevious bodily harm, 5) murder if the person dies, etc.

That you are charged for offense 1 does not mean you can't be charged for offense 3 or be charged for all four offenses at the same time.

If INEC arrests you for ballot snatching, you will go to jail just for 2yrs.
But ballot snatching also carries along , the following offenses:
1) treasonous felony, 2) subversion, 3) murder or attempted murder if someone did not die in the process, 4) possession of firearms, 5) robbery, 6) aggravated robbery or armed robbery ( if you did it holding a weapon) .... [b] and some of these offenses carry the death penalty moreso, if you get shot in the process of forcefully snatch ballot boxes by a law enforcement officer while carrying a weapon yourself, you died in active operation.

Whichever way we look at it, even if we test it in court, Mr. President was right.

My advice to any of you is to go out vote peacefully and be law abiding otherwise if you try to snatch the ballot and rubbish our votes, YOU WILL BE SHOT BY SECURITY FORCES.
For some if you who have been to the states before, pls go and snatch a ballot box on election day, its an ordinary citizen that will shoot you and that person will get a medal for service to country.

I think Buhari is just trying to be too nice this time around because he has this "label" of being allegedly draconian in 1983 still hunting him.
A leader must be prepared to take "hard decisions" because the burk stops at his table.
Trying to please everybody, especially the criminals in PDP will be his greatest undoing.
INEC chairman himself has said it is the Police that are in-charge of security, so he needs to STFU on security matters and pay more attention to his logistics.

The Rule of Law is good if it administers justice. Nigeria's Rule of Law promotes impunity. Smart criminals like Saraki et al love the Rule of Law so much because it is very easy to circumvent it. I say, ditch the incompetent Rule of Law in this matter and waste any d*ckhead(s) that attempts to snatch our ballot box. Rule of Law my foot.

The INEC chairman has the backing of the international community, PMB goofed seriously and its a show of desperation it clearly shows that INEC has slipped through their fingers they no longer have control over INEC so they resort to threat or using the military to scare people. He doesn't know the implications of his statement, that if one ballot box snatcher is shot dead a case file has been opened for him at ICC, we have laws and as such we follow those laws so that we don't have plunge this country into serious crisis that we can't come out from

My fear/worry is that the security agencies have been empowered to be the prosecutor, the jury, the judge and the executioner.
Is this not jungle justice in a democracy no matter how good the intention may seem? And some of these security agents are not mentally balanced.( Sorry but this is the truth).
For example, remember the video of the customs officer who shot and killed an innocent civilian from abroad at Ore-Benin road because he refused to bribe him five thousand Naira? If this was during election day, all the officer has to say is " he was trying to snatch the ballot box ", and voila, he's a free man.

Snatching of ballot boxes is worse and more criminal and more dangerous than armed robbers as they are ready to kill anybody preventing them.
