STRATEGIC ORCHARD MANAGEMENT
Irrigation as been the only approach to improve the production of our orchard and the improvement of liquid content of juicy fruit (e.g Citrus)in the orchard during dry season.
Here is one of the strick that will help in effective utilization of our orchard especially Citrus.
Furrow Irrigation is one of the most effective system of irrigation for proper utilization of Land and water in the orchard during this dry season. While other Farmers are spending large amount of money in setting up drip Irrigation which will only be dropping water to only the root of the trees, Furrow Irrigation with less amount of money and proper spacing of our fruity plant is utmost effective system for us.

As you can see in the below pictures, with proper spacing of Citrus plant, you can plant any crop of your choice into the orchard and while using furrow irrigation the water will reach to both our fruit and crop.

Advantages of Furrow Irrigation in the Orchard
* For proper Utilization of land by planting another Crop especially vegetable Crop to remaining space.
* It's very cheap and simple to carry out compare to Drip Irrigation.
* To provide water to our Juicy fruit during dry season.
* Orchard will provide shade to vegetable Crops planted in it.
* It save stress and expenses of orchard weeding.
* The orchard will be producing and green all year round no matter the weather.

Challenges
* The orchard must be sited to where there is available water all year round, availability of water should be consider before siting your orchard farm.

This System is what we are using presently at MACHAR FARMS KADUNA STATE and is very easy and profitable.
