Sleep deprivation can really affect the brains functionality in a terribleThe Stop Snoring And Sleep Apnea Program and irreversible way. A study by the University of California San Diego school of medicine performed a study using magnetic resonance to follow brain activity of sleep depraved individuals performing simple verbal tests. The study discovered increased amounts of activity in the brains frontal cortex in subject who had not slept as well. What ended up happening was the brain over compensation in certain areas to make up for the individuals lack of sleep.

A condition that temporarily slows down normal functionality of certain areas in the brain - these are the areas that were compensated for by the other areas on the brain.Language processing and comprehension is performed in the brains temporal lobe and was activated during the verbal learning exams of the well rested subjects while is was not in the subjects who had not slept well. The parietal section of the brain was conversely not activated in the well rested subjects while it was over activated in the sleepy group.

Although overall memory was down in the sleepy subjects it is this part of the brain, the parietal lobe that retains memory. What this shows is that while this part of the brain was not necessary to perform the given tasks it was called into action by the students without much sleep.Other studies suggest sleep deprivation can be linked to serious condition like heart failure and obesity. Even mental illness and psychosis can be caused or inflamed with a lack of sleep.

Studies show with an MRI machine that lack of proper sleep will prevent the individual from putting an emotional event into the proper context. Meaning you are more prone to over react to smaller issues. The basic principle here is that the sensors in your brain reasonable to put your mind at ease in emotional situations are not rested and become overworked simply meaning that they literally have a shorter fuse.
