INEC Apologises To NAF Over Wrongful Accusation Of Rivers Polls Disruption by EngrHumble(m): 7:17pm On Mar 12, 2019
The Independent National Electoral Commission has apologized to the Nigerian Air Force for wrongfully accusing it of using its personnel to invade its premises in Rivers State and disrupt the collation of results in the protracted governorship and House of Assembly polls.

It will be recalled that the Spokesman for the INEC in Rivers State had accused the NAF and other security agencies of invading its collation centre and disrupting the exercise thereby forcing it to discontinue the declaration of results, a development that is currently generating tension across the country and beyond.

But apparently realizing its mistake, INEC said on Tuesday that it had discovered that none of the NAF personnel was involved in the chaos that was recorded in the premises at the weekend leading to the suspension of poll results collation and announcement.

In the statement absolving NAF entitled: “Inadvertent Involvement of the Nigerian Air Force in the Disruption of the March 9 2019 Collation Process”, INEC said it also discovered that the men in military uniforms were neither not from the NAF.

The statement which was made available to Vanguard on Tuesday was signed by the Head of Voter Education in Rivers State, Mr. Edwin Enabor for the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Obo Effanga.

The statement said: “Further to our investigation and clarification from the NAF Command in Rivers State on the invasion of our offices/disruption of collation process by armed men in military uniforms, the commission wishes to state that the persons purported to have worn the Air Force uniforms were neither personnel of the service nor authorized by the service to be at INEC office.

“The commission therefore wishes to express its regret at the embarrassment this might have caused the NAF,” INEC said.

The apology by INEC notwithstanding, its earlier claim at the weekend that military personnel took over its premises and hijacked the collation of results, has gone viral and attracted global attention, forcing some countries to issue threats against Nigeria.

Before you display your naivety, please present to me the result of the 2007 presidential election classified by states or just show me a link to it.

I talk to you as an insider.

I am not holding brief for Prof. Yakubu, but we shouldn't forget that we once had a chairman who only came on air to announce general scores without telling us the result collated per state for each of the parties

You are wrong.
Peter Obi was the only APGA Governor from South East and he fought tooth and nail before reclaiming his mandate.

One out of five SE states.

In the south west, only Tinubu survived that is one out of six.

And lastly, please present to me the result of the 2003, 2007 presidential elections by state

I bet the guy you quoted wouldn't reply this. I'm surprised they're calling Yakubu the worst Chairman when under him, PDP is about winning fourteen States and APC also winning fourteen States with AAC claiming one. During their time in govt, there was nothing like inconclusive election simply because they always rigged the election such that there wouldn't be any need to have inconclusive polls. Under this man, at least we now see margin of defeat being around 100 to 5000 which wasn't obtainable during the time of Iwu.

As an insider you claim to be let me inform you that Professor Mahmoud is the worst INEC chairman and I doubt if anyone can beat his record. Someone who went ahead to declare election result with polls not holding in an entire local government Dekina in Kogi state et al; Tudun wada and Kabong ward et al in Jos north was cancelled and numerous I can't mention. Mind you the above named places and several others were not added to the number of invalid votes he announced. I am not surprised, what do you expect from a Professor of History who gets intimidated with figures. History won't be kind to Mahmoud

We need to educate these kids.

2003, 2007 were the era of do or die politics.

Once you get the ticket of PDP, you can go to bed.

I remember we voted for Mimiko in Ondo, while we were still collating the result in Akure, Prof. Maurice Iwu announced it in Abuja.
Same applies to edo, OSUN, Ekiti.

You're so right bro. I can remember how Hon. Tunde Akogun, the man who later became the House leader won in 2007 when Presidential and National Assembly elections were still being held different days. His boy (man) came to the polling unit and told whoever cared to listen that elections had already been concluded in Abj and that Akogun had already won. He told us not to bother ourselves waiting for materials. Materials later arrived around 5pm and before 6:15pm, those PDP guys in my area were already looking for a way to snatch the ballot boxes and papers. It took the intervention of the fearless AC guys who stood their ground. Last last, they took the ballot boxes away (to INEC office to avoid snatching) before 6:30pm when just few people had voted. The next day we heard Akogun had been announced as the winner of the polls. This scenario alone makes me hate PDP so much. Yet some people are here telling us Yakubu is worse than Iwu.

In Ibadan and Oyo State, Late Adedibu was the one who compile results and forward to INEC

Although I am saddened by the retrogression of Inec under the current chairman, the late Dr Gorbedia or what does he call himself who conducted 2003 general election and of course Prof Iwu of 2007, remain the worst Inec chairmen of all time in Nigerian history.

At least under the current Inec chairman, people saw where to thumbprint. But under the aforementioned two, where would you see inec adhoc staff let alone thumbprint? In those eras, voting is done in the houses of pdp politicians apart from in Lagos where what semblance of election took place.

So don't ever compare this one with what took place under Obasanjo.

My observations, however, do not make Buhari a less murderous, stupid, useless, worthless president. Why, because I had expected the stupid nomad would build on the success of 2015 election.

Maurice Iwu is singlehandedly responsible for the staggered governorship elections we have in Nigeria.

He penchant for electoral fraud, which were overturned at the courts, is why some states don't vote for their governors at the same time with other states.

Posterity will judge.

Who remembers the flagrant abuse of electoral process in the cancellation of the April 2007, Imo State governorship election while upholding the House of Assembly elections on the flimsy allegation that there was violence and irregularities in some areas!

Both elections took place at the same places, at the same time and in the same ballot boxes, but the selective 'violence and irregularities' affected only the votes cast for the governorship elections. This particular election was widely acclaimed to be won by Martins Agbaso of APGA but cancelled because PDP was enmeshed in a legal battle around candidacy between Sen. Ararume & Engr. Charles Ugwu (Ohakim's PPA candidate later won in the re-scheduled election and later decamped to PDP).

Who was INEC chair when some states election were upturned by the Court leading to the staggered guber elections - Ekiti, Ondo, Osun.

Prof. Iwu has had his day in the history of Nigeria; Prof. Yakubu too will surely have his, at his appointed time.

Posterity will judge.
