Obviously, they had to go through the embassy to get to America since Nigeria does not share land border with the US.
Who gave them visas to become refugees?

You don’t need a visa to apply for refugee status.

You can arrive in the US on a visitor’s visa and apply for it.

Chess teaches one to anticipate the worst case scenario stack up against them and then devise multi layer strategies to react and over come them.

You can’t be good at chess without the ability to anticipate dangers, opportunities, pitfalls and make detail plans to put yourself in the best position to exploit them to your advantage.

Chess players are very savvy and are active thinkers.
