Studies have shown there are many habits to cultivate that can lead to great sex. Habits like exercising more, engaging in pre-intimacy before the ‘bedroom’ etc. According to experts, diet also plays a big role in guaranteeing a satisfactory sex life to both women and men.

Some foods are libido boosters and will affect how your body functions. These are not just food you use during the act to enhance the experience but foods that will encourage the release of hormones that are related to sexual performance and pleasure.

Some of such foods are discussed below.

1. Watermelon

Watermelon is sometimes referred to as the ‘natural viagra’. This is because it contains citrulline, a compound that helps the body relax blood vessels, boosting blood flow. For sex to be pleasurable, one needs to relax and blood flow to certain areas is key as well.

2. Dark Chocolate

Dark chocolate also belongs to this list. It’s not a myth as some people believe. Chocolate contains a compound called phenylethylamine, which triggers the release of endorphins (the same happy-making chemicals released after a great workout) and feel-good dopamine. This is what makes it a great food to eat to boost your sex life as well.

3. Oysters

You’ve probably heard about the aphrodisiac properties of oysters. Research shared at a 2005 conference of the American Chemical Society that oysters, clams, and scallops contain compounds that raise testosterone and estrogen levels. A boost in hormone production translates into heightened sexual desire in many cases. Oysters are also an excellent source of zinc, which aids blood flow to sexual organs in both genders. If you don’t care for mollusks, you can opt for lobsters or crabs instead. Both types of shellfish are loaded with zinc.

4. Nuts and Seeds

Instead of snacking on candy, snack on a handful of nuts and seeds not only are they the healthier option they also have the added benefit of spicing things up in the bedroom. Cashews and almonds are full of zinc.

Red wine contains quercetin, which might account for the positive response. Researchers noted that drinking more than two glasses of red wine daily or indulging in other types of alcoholic beverages didn’t produce the same results. There are certain brands that have been known to boost libido in both men and women.
