Underpasses would have been a better idea instead of raising unsafe concrete structure everywhere. Strategia use of traffic lights around flash points can also be applied. Civil engineers need to do more to ensure our city take New modern looks

Those bridges are not needed there, they should be moved to Lekki-Epe express way, Oshodi-Oworonshoki express way, or Mowe-Berger express way.

Autojosh, I pity you, enter there for night na people 3 bedroom flat be that.

I was shocked when I entered Lagos for the first time and we just exited Third Main land bridge towards another bridge I don't know the name, I saw a man living under a bridge with his wife and kid.

I later found out that every single bridge in Lagos are occupied. Even people are living and fvcking their wives under third main land bridge. Their houses were built with floating logs of wood.

It seems that if an afonja is not living under a brown roof, he is living under a brideg. God will help them sha.

I don't think their christians are part of that madness, except brown roofs of course.

These bridges are for accommodation purposes. During the day the bridges are empty as they have all gone to search for jobs with brown long envelopes.

Come back at night and see the high number of people living there.

Herbert Macaulay Road is a prime road in Yaba, Lagos. It has a length of about 5.13 kilometers.

The road is gradually earning the status of Nigeria’s version of Silicon Valley. This is so because it is home to a growing number of tech companies.

Note that Herbert Macaulay Road, Yaba, was Facebook’s founder, Mark Zuckerberg, first port of call during his visit to Nigeria in August 2016.

Now that entire aside, Herbert Macaulay Road also has some very interesting landmarks.

For instance, the stretch of Herbert Macaulay road, starting from Adekunle Bus-stop to Jibowu, lies 8 very conspicuous pedestrian bridges. Arguably, this is the highest number of pedestrian bridges on a single road in Nigeria.

Interestingly, the 8 pedestrian bridges are relevant on that road only as landmarks. No one seem to be interested in putting them to the use that they were designed for.

Well, aside from the fact that Lagosians are legends for being in meaningless haste, the relatively narrow Herbert Macaulay roads, together with the light traffic on the road doesn’t exactly help matters.

Perhaps, the authorities should consider an alternative such as speed bumps, zebra crossing and mini-staircases over the elevated medians on the road.

Hopefully, if these are done, “Yabarians” would put them to use.

Nice one Autojosh, the new "explorers" of our time. Wonder where that guy is now? It's been a while I saw his post.

Not all citizens are the same. I still used one of those bridges last week. It may look convenient to flow with the crowd, but we should decide to be refreshingly different.

These bridges were built in the 80s. For those who know the area well, you'll wonder why those bridges were built in the first place or why they take the positions they currently occupy. It's obvious they've lost their relevance.

The area used to host a lot of public schools back in the day as well as several public quarters and barracks so I believe these could be some of the reasons why they were built. I know we used the bridges when we visit schools around during 'principal cup'.

Most public schools today don't even have an overall population of 300 pupils, so the area is calmer compared to what it was.

What’s futuristic about that road?

Note that this road was constructed when there were fewer people is that area, and as the area grows in population such is needed so as to avert chaos and accident.

Roads like Isolo road down to ikotun, were not done with future considerations, and as such areas increase
in population, there might be need for expansion, and later adding the pedestrian bridge.

Another example is here in Abuja, a road that has been constructed for over a decade, now that there is congestion in such axis and several accidents, they are now constructing pedestrian bridge (aya to Nyanya).
