Court Orders INEC To Stop Collation Of Results In Rivers State by Emmyloaded: 5:34pm On Mar 19
A Federal High Court in Abuja Tuesday ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission to stop the collation and announcement of the result of the governorship and House of assembly elections in Rivers State held on March 9, 2019.

The Commission had moved to resume the collation of the result that had been previously suspended after it was alleged that the AAC Candidate was leading in the results so far declared at the various collations centers by the INEC returning.

There was a disruption of the collation process at some collation centers which led to the suspension of results for the elections. The commission on had announced the resumption of the result collation process after considering a report from its fact-finding –committee put in place to ascertain remote causes of violence that led to the suspension of the process.

However, Justice Iyang Ewa, ordered the Commission to halt its proceedings based on an ex parte application filed by AAC Candidates.

The applicant prayed the court for an order of Interim Injunction restraining INEC from resuming, collating or announcing the result of the suspended elections in Rivers State in respect of the election to the office of Governor and the Houses of Assembly.

Inyang Ewa ordered INEC to appear before the court on Friday for hearing of the suit filed against it by the AAC and its candidate in the election.

Inyang affirmed that the court will give its final order after it concludes the suits brought before it by the plaintiffs.
Although INEC represented, by a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Ransome uwa, approached the court with a motion challenging its jurisdiction.

But the Counsel to the plaintiffs, mohammed Abali, however, objected to the application of INEC, informing the court that the order issued on Monday asking the electoral body to show cause why the requests of the plaintiffs should not be granted had not been obeyed.

The judge, however, ordered electoral umpire to halt the proceedings till the court give the final order.

This is like cooking a keg of petrol. We are heading for a constitutional crises. This case would drag on beyond the may 29 handover date, that is the overall intention of the prosecutor of these fictitious court orders..
So then want happens

The speaker of the incoming assemblies are sworn in as substantive governors,
Another scenerio is that buhari declares a state of emergency and imposes a retired general as sole administrators

This is a very bad precendence that will consume this nation if not checked. Very soon politicians will start getting Court orders stopping INEC from announcing winners of elections. This is bad, this is condemnable, this is sacrilagous, this is absurb, this is judicial rascality and abuse of court processes. The Nigarian temple of Justice is in coma.

This is why I think Inec should have ignored that order on Bauchi. Why should our court be willing tool for such nonsense. A court should have no business with constitutional mandate.

Wike started this whole judiciary matter, he used the state high court to prevent APC from fielding candidates through interlocutory injunction stopping APC from conducting congresses.

And now they want to tell him too that since he brought judiciary into political matter lets us also use it too.

A constitutional crisis is imminent with the way court orders are flying around everywhere. Our political elites should please give peace chance.

Going forward, Buhari should remove the INEC chairman, all national commissioners and all RECs. We need a brand new INEC with officials that have not been compromised to handle the 2023 elections. The current INEC is a complete mess.

The National Judicial Council should live up to its responsibility by sanctioning these judges who have turned into willing tools in the hands of the politicians.

Can the court please order the environmental pollution to stop in Port Harcourt? We are tired of black feet.

The president does not have the power to appoint an administrator to govern any state in Nigeria. What Obasanjo did in Plateau and Ekiti was illegal and unconstitutional. If the electoral process fail to produce a governor before May 29, the speaker of the State House of Assembly will be sworn in as the acting governor.
