Ekiti Awards N8.9bn Ado-Osun Boundary Road Project To Contractor by Sanromeo(m): 7:19am On Mar 22, 2019
The construction work on the N8.9 billion new Ado- Iyin road commenced on Thursday as Ekiti State government formally awarded the project to CCECC Nigeria Ltd.

Governor Kayode Fayemi at the handing over ceremony of the road which was originally awarded in 1978 but was abandoned said the road project billed for completion within 24 months.

Fayemi his government irrevocably committed to fulfilling all his electioneering promises in all sectors, especially in the area of infrastructure which is a catalyst for development.

The governor who was represented by his Otunba Bisi Egbeyemi, at the brief ceremony added that the 7.25km road project is the first phase of the construction work which will stop at the State’s boundary with Osun State; noting that the dualization project will be completed within 24 months.

The first phase of the project, according to him is the construction of the road from Ado to Iyin, the second phase from Iyin to Aramoko while the third phase would be from Aramoko to Itawure.

The Governor expressed worry that the old Ado – Iyin road had become a death trap because of its unsafe, winding and undulating alignments which had caused series of fatal accidents on the route; stressing that his government cannot helplessly watch citizens’ lives and properties lost to the road.

He disclosed that no less than 500 Ekiti indigenes would be engaged for the construction work.
“As a government, we understand and appreciate the importance of good road network to our economic development. Good road network will not only ease the stress of commuters but will also enhance the marketability of our farm produce which is the mainstay of most of our people.

“Ekiti people should take it that our government would fulfil all our promises to the people, and infrastructure development is just a part of it.

“All we need is that the people should cooperate with us. We will try our best to serve our people. The workers will continue to receive their salaries as and when due. The governor knows the people’s problem. Some weeks ago, some vehicles fell inside Akonasan ditch.

“When this road is completed, it will bring an end to such unfortunate incidents”, he said.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Road/Transport and Infrastructure Hon. Sunday Adunmo, said lightings will be accommodated in the N8.9 Billion road so that commuters can travel any time without fears of the unknown.

Adunmo disclosed that the Fayemi-led government will soon commence construction of some ring roads to reduce traffic in the State capital.

He listed such roads to include Iworoko-Eyio-Igede road and Ago Aduloju (Ado Ekiti) – Afao road among others.

The Southwest Regional Manager of company handling the project Sewell Zhao, said the company has commenced the recruitment of workers for the project; stating that the company will accommodate local content by employing at least 500 Ekiti people for the construction work.

Zhao assured that the company will deliver quality job as the company has brought new equipment that will enable it deliver in time.

This is what we want in south west of Nigeria . Infrastructural Development here and there and not the government of embezzelment and bread sharing.

APC is half Yoruba party, created to serve Yoruba agenda. PDP was created by the Hausas so it can serve them and so they can remain in the corridor of power. The Ibo has their APGA too but they abandon it completely then hijack PDP.

Now they want to force that PDP on us. We have different ideas, ambitions, interest etc.
They just can't see clearly it seems.

Fayemi is setting a new standard for good governance.
The only Governor in the South West that recorded a clean sheet in the last State Assembly election. TUALE!

Fayemi is working in Ekiti. Akeredolu is working in Ondo. It's good to know that both sister-states (Ekiti & Ondo) are moving forward.

Meanwhile,

Akure-Ado Road to be dualized soon, says Akeredolu

This has been long due, it's a good development that will open that area. A road that houses the new central bank, new high court, new Inec, pavilion, corpers lodge and so on has finally gain attention.

I need both states to team up and dualise the Akure - Ado road. This will be a strategic intervention that will spread developments to the fringe townships between both states.

And interestingly, the road is a federal road, which means they can still claim their money back from the FG.

I really don’t understand why both Ekiti and Ondo states are not looking in this direction all along.

. What's more shocking is that the contract was awarded since 1978. Something is really wrong with Nigeria

Ekiti State should dualize the single lane that leads to the state from Ibadan.

Drivers lose a lot of travel time plying on the road because of its curvy shape.

I suppose it's a federal road, Fayemi should make effort to dualize the road and get a refund later.

You're right. That road is long overdue but Akeredolu has disclosed it yesterday 21st March, 2019, that the Akure-Ado road will soon be dualized by the Federal Government.

He said the Federal government has finished the design for the road but only awaiting budgetary approval.

The Governor gave the cheering news at Itaogbolu, headquarters of Akure North Local Government Area of the state during his Thank You Tour.

He explained that his administration has made several efforts at getting the road done before it later settled for the dualisation of the road.

very wrong. He's just looking for ways of recovering the funds he spent during elections. Moreover, same boundary roads and those mentioned in the above report were awarded by fayemi when he first came, from efon alaaye to erinmo ijesha boundsry point. What happened to it in less than 10 years? He needs to be probed. No governor...I repeat, no governor ever ruled ekiti had constructed roads like fayose. The records are there and to those apc boys showering praises on fayemi, kudos to you. We the Ekiti people know better.
