Oba of Yoruba in Sokoto, Abdulfatai Coker, has said that the Yoruba monarchs in the Northern part of the country should be appreciated and respected for sustaining the culture and tradition of the Yoruba in the region.

Coker, who was installed as the Sarkin Yoruba in Sokoto by the Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar, in February, 2016, however, noted that Yoruba monarchs in the North were often relegated by visiting political leaders from the South-West.

Speaking to Sunday PUNCH in Sokoto on Friday, t[b]he Sarkin contended that his counterparts from other tribes were accorded due respect and honour by their political leaders whenever they visited the North for political rallies and other engagements.

He added that his roles as a Yoruba Oba in the North include mediating in conflicts and preventing crisis as well as mobilising his people and encouraging them to perform various political and civic responsibilities.

Asked what roles the Yoruba monarchs in the region played whenever political leaders from the South-West visited their state, Coker said, “We don’t get to play any significant role because they do not recognize us or appreciate our contributions.”

He added, “We don’t get the due respect and recognition especially from visiting Yoruba politicians. Recently, the All Progressives Congress leader, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, was in the state and I was introduced to him as the Sarkin Yoruba in Sokoto, he just looked away.”

How can they accord them respect when your obas in the West are conferring themselves with the title of Emir. Inferiority complex.

There's no king without a territory. Yoruba monarchs in the north are just like the eze igbo in every corner of the world, they are just community leaders, nothing more.

How can they be respected when all they do is asslick northerners, they cannot make a firm decision in a situation they only go with the highest bidder, they lack virtes of honesty, integrity and contentment but have vices of hypocrisy, greed and wickedness, who will ever want to associate with such people, they insult whoever is not on their side calling them Igbos even if they are not igbos, I've never seen a tribe so filled with jealousy and hate like them, everything to them is competition.

There is no Yoruba monarch in the North, don't confuse yourself. If you are hungry, beg for food, stop behaving like Igbos that have Igwes all over the world. Yoruba monarchs ate supposed to lead in Oduduwa land. Hausa/Fulani land is not Oduduwa land

Eze Ndigbo of Akure was mercilessly flogged at the Deji of Akure's palace. Don't down play it by saying that he was nearly flogged. As at this moment, Eze Ndigbo of Akure still has sores on his bumbum as a result of his last flogging at Deji's palace.
